4 new World 1000yd BR IBS records

Post by dg »

Virginia 1000yd BR Club member James O'Hara achieved the following results (group and score) at their matches held over the weekend.

2.996" 50.2
2.433" 50.1
3.715" 50.4
2.188" 50.1

Average 2.883" 50.2

according to witnesses, apart from a great gun, superb projectiles and immmense personal ability, he attributed his success to the fact that he aligned and concentrated on continually viewing/checking the wind flags through his spotting scope during the sighter and record target.

The next Postal Match results will be posted following the Canberra 1000yd BR match at the end of the month.

Ive spoken to Jim on the accurateshooter.com forum a couple of times. The man is a wealth of knowledge on tuning the 6 dasher.

Just wait until we start getting our shooting going over here. Next year around march-april we get some really nice afternoons that have no wind at all. One of the guys with a 308 f class rifle has held 5 shots at 56mm before getting smashed by a change. So long as we can get the conditions, and tune our rifles right, its more than possible.

your club will be a most welcome addition to the ExtraVision 1000yd BR Postal Matches. it is great to see that, apart from tasmania and the northern territory (give them some time however), all other australian states are now participants in the Postal Matches with the Virginia Club. i am looking forward to receiving and including your results. :D :D

yes mate, the continuing standard of LRBR excellence achieved by the various members of the Virginia 1000yd BR club, again confirms them as the benchmark of world 1000yd BR.

we tend to get excited when someone shoots a sub 4" LG IBS target or a separate 50 score, but for Mr O'Hara to shoot 4 consecutive targets over two days and achieve that standard of results, is simply mindblowing!!!!!

to put this into some type of perspective, consider that anyone else could only dream of possibly shooting 4 sub 3" targets or four 50 score targets in a season, with a lot of lesser targets in between.

dg,
As far as I am aware, the NT does not have a dedicated bench rest competition, just F Class and F Class open shooting with the Darwin Rifle Club and Central Australian Rifle Club. They get squadded into the mix and share targets with us.

earlier this year we sent some 1000yd IBS BR targets to the darwin club for their perusal and consideration.

additionally robbie mckay is now spending 4-5 months alternating between here and darwin and is attempting to determine if there is sufficient interest and motivation to trial LRBR.

in many clubs that have had or continue to have a f class or target rifle basis, most have found that once experienced, there is sufficient interest, advantages and support for 1000yd BR to co-exist with these existing disciplines.

in fact many F class competitors find that experiencing and competing in 1000yd BR can improve and produce benefits for their F class shooting.

BTW- Dave Gifford of BJD projectiles has been and continues to be a wonderful supporter, sponsor and promoter of our ExtraVision Postal Matches both within Australia and with the USA.

actually i reckon you would be hard pressed to find a more co-operative, generous and humble gentleman than Mr Gifford.

In support of Brad's comments and apologies for not mentioning it previously, Mr O'Hara has generously indicated he would be prepared to detail and share his 1000yd BR shooting techniques and related info in a future ATR article.

I have met him a few times too, found him to be a nice bloke.

Though in my mind only, Bob and Jan Dyer, the real force behind the success of both BJD and the BJD HBC surpass him.

The way these records are falling it must be an easy discipline, hardly worth thinking about.

I'm with you Rabbitz, must be too easy shooting light gun, I'll stick to heavy gun. Gotta say that is an awesome performance, having watched TZ shoot a 3" day agg here in townsville. To think the guy shot a 2", 2 day with every score shot in the 10 ring is mind blowing. We have a ways to go to catch up. Would be interesting to see what he used to shoot the record?

Dave,

I'm glad to have a blue and a red cap, as well as one of those great engraved thermos flasks. Might come in handy next June when I come down to defend the title.
