Rimfire shooters.

Post by native hunter »

G"day All,
Just wondering what all the rimfire benchrest shooters have been up too.??
The new Eley has been trickling through and as usual its a fun time affair to get some ammo that produces the consistent results.
Ive found lots with a higher nominated speed in the 1070's have been good but theres still room for improvement.
I have been looking forward to the TRA RBA nationals at SISC in 3 weeks, this will be the first qualifier for the world champs in brissy in late 2015, there will be three qualifiers.(syd,melb,bris.).
The search goes on.!!!
So what have you all been up too.??
Regards
Native
PS-Ive heard all the new 2013 batches of Eley Match are very low In nominated speeds,IE 1045 to 1055, nothing else.!!!

Family and work have been keeping me on a low profile...................................and lack of funds,I do have a new rifle in the works and I hope to give it a workout next year.
Other than that I have only been doing a couple of local comps and such and also the odd hunting trip here and there.

Regards Chris.

G"Day All,
Tried some of the new 2013 match last night in speed 1066 and it was excellent, hence I now have a case of it sittin in the safe.
Now I just need to get to the range more regularly in the next few weeks to get a bit of match practice.
Should be there now but im here typeing and having a cold rum in my tankard, lifes tough.!!

Nothing on a national scale here. Just completed a 10 card 20m postal bench comp and was consistently bad. Started of well with a 192/200 but never reached those heights again averaging well below what my normal 189 -190 scores would be. I shoot Federal match which seems to be the best of what I've tried so far.

As a result of my poor scores during the pennant I've had the Walther away getting the trigger attended too reducing the creep then re-crowning the barrel so when I fit up a barrel tuner I'll have no excuses.
Time will tell if I can make the best of the improvement BUT IF i DO YOU'LL HEAR ABOUT IT. .

I've just restocked my Anschutz super match.

It's now in an Anschutz BR-50 stock and I've just fitted a Leupold that has been boosted by Premier.

As my Anschutz is an early model, it doesn't have the forward area of the action dovetailed. I have a gunsmith in Tennessee turning me out a picatinny rail with 25 MOA to solve this problem.

I'm hoping to get back into rimfire and 200 fly.

I love the smell of gunpowder and hoppe's no. 9

Chris,

What is the length of the barrrel on your Anschutz (from the gas port). I would presume that it's 27 1/2 Inches?

Sorry for the slow reply,Mate the barrel length depends on what barrel is fitted,It has a aftermarket barrel fitted. My action is from the 50's era,Peter machined the front of the action to accept mounts.

Following up on my earlier post. Still no tuner yet but the trigger job has been a huge improvement and the last 5 cards have all been averaging a +4-5 better score over those of the previous ten cards so I'm very pleased.

I'm looking forward to fitting up the Lowey Tuner to the Walther KKM and working through the settings to find the sweet spot seeking out that next area of improvement.
