Hand priming tools. What's your favorite?

I use the Lee round tray Hand Primer Tool - been a great little bit of kit, mate has the RCBS with the Square tray and its a pile of shite, bloody tab things have broken off after very little use, he now uses a Lee too!

They are cheap to buy $20 odd bucks) and do a good job.

I have a small and large Lee. The small one HiWall gave me and works a treat, its one of the older models. I have a new large Lee and its a POS, poorly made and functions poorly and generally gives me the S*#ts. Because of this I have been considering a Hornady hand prime.

I've got the RCBS Universal as well, I haven't had any dramas with mine, though it probably hasn't seen as much use as yours. Did yours bugger up every now and then from when you got it new, or did it only start happening after you'd used it for a bit?

Yep, RCBS universal, well made, solid and functions well. I did have that jaws letting go thing at one time but that was as a result of swapping from large to small primers and doing something or other to get the primer push rod slightly off centre. Once rectified and centred there has been no problems.

Still looking at priming tools. With the Hornady priming tool, is it able to use lee shell holders? Looks like the hornady holders are hard to get ATM

I still have a couple of the round tray Lee's.................they get used the most,also have a K&M+Sinclair one as well and you will not wear either of them out but a bit slow for me if I am loading for varmints.

I ended up getting the lee ergo prime. Unfortunately it's the new action that everybody hates. However I have found it fine. Care must be taken to ensure the lid is on the primer tray properly but a rapt from that and being a little slower that my other one, it is good. I realised how long my other primer was only just doing the job. I now have got very well seated primers and uniformity across the whole batch. I was getting the odd primer sticking back just enough to make loading and cocking tight.

Missed this question earlier - both of mine (I leave one set up for small and another for large primers) popped the occasional case out of the jaws from new. The problem seems to be to do with the case rims. Winchester cases are the main problem. Lapua cases don't do it at all.

I don't think the Lee priming tool could ever be passed. Value for money, efficient and with a lifetime warranty.

This is the dogs nuts, and you can use your Lee trays and shell holder. I don't think I'll break anything on this.
I broke the handle on the Lee awhile back. Having said that it did last for 8 years when I was reloading for 2 pistols and 5 rifles, and shooting in IPSC.

I see the smart reloader one is only like $30 now and is a fully metal body. Might have to try one and compare it with the lee.

I started with the lee (round tray) and upgraded to the 21st Century.

A tip for those looking to buy one. Don't buy the brass shell holders. Stick with the steel lee ones. I also had to modify it to stop the eccentric seating depth adjuster from rotating under load (just put a tiny speck of steel under the dial and tightened her up).

With that sorted it's the best tool I've ever used.
