Re: Yoohoo, Johno aand missed
Well Ive finally got an afternoon off to start doing a bit of shooting with this here new fandangled 20/222, it was a lovely afternoon, sunny and only a very slight breeze, so I packed up my gear and headed out to a mates place, who just happens to have a gravel quarry on his place that is nice and flat on the bottom, and just so happens to be 105 metres across. I set up my rickety home made bench, with my homemade rest and got down to shooting to get the scope on target, fired two shots that were nearly touching, but low left, up 20 clicks and 20 clicks right, fired another, half way there, another 20 up and right, then bingo smack in the middle of my aiming mark, bit of gaffer tape stuck onto paper, cut to 3/4 inch square. fired another two shots and bugger me, they were right into the same spot.
My start off load was 19.0gn AR2207 with the 32gn Nosler projectiles, Rem 7 1/2 primers in Lapua cases that had just been necked down and trimmed with no other prep work. I then got a bit impatient and went up to 20.4 2207, the second and third shots just made the little dot grow bigger. After giving it a clean and letting it cool down, I put a few through my 223 to make sure it was shooting all right.
Next off was the 39gn Sierra's turn, they shot into the same point of aim, the six of them could have been covered with a 1/4 inch dot, Im amazed and rather happy with the way it turned out.
The maximum I went to today was 21.6 with the 32gners and 21 with the 39gners. Im going to try upping the charge next time, but for now I reckon mr foxy and mrs pussy cat are in mortal danger.
Some photos: the Sierra one should be 39gn, not 32 gn, guess I got carried away

Re: Yoohoo, Johno aand missed
Couple more photos :
Next session Ill be chasing a little more pressure, but will load up some 21.5 loads with the 32gners and use them till I get another day off, and Missed has graciously advised me that if I take it down next weekend Ill be able to run it over his chronograph, another new experience for me, Ill actually know how fast a bullet is going, without having to rely on loading manuals.
Until next time, thanks to johno and missed for pushing me along, and the advice that Ive received from others on here, even though they don't know Ive been stealing their ideas.

My fox spotlighting rifle is a .22-250, but its posts like these on this forum that are creating a serious itch for a .20 cal.....

You gotta be happy with that mate I bet the Missus was wondering why you were grinning when you walked in the door.
Another converted and it is mostly Trevorts fault.

Re: Yoohoo, Johno aand missed
All I can say is get onto it mate, after shooting missed's 20PPC last weekend, and now this, Im starting to wonder if I need anything besides this, and a 308, and a 22, and a 17, and a 223, when will it never end. I do like the Zastavas, although they need a bit of smoothing out, the bolt knob that I got off adamjp worked beautifully.Branxhunter wrote:Looking good there mate. Camel,
Pretty sure this wildcat is in the QL database. Pass me your barrel length, COL, what pills and powders you'd like to try and whether you want me to run simulations at 48k psi (222Rem ceiling) or 55k psi, or 60k psi and I can see what we can do.
Be later tonight though, in Melbourne at the moment. Are you using Hornady dies to reload or something else?
Cheers...
Con

Mate be very careful providing the length of your barrel to greek gentleman,
I tried to convince Con to build the same thing, he said " i'll wait until you build one then buy it off you "

G'day mate, sighted in at 50 metres then moved back to 100 for some serious groups, the sighting in shots were the ones on the yellow coreflute, all other were 100. Maximum distance, that's a good question, I reckon any fox up to 350/400 m is in danger.

Con Ill get back to you on that, have to go and shoot another load of rabbits tonight.

Johno Ill be careful, I still cherish my virginity.

Andrew and Trev, thanks for the complements, Im gunna love this one.
