Full Length Resizing Loaded ammo!

G'day All,

Just wondering if this is possible?

Long story short: new barrel, old brass from old barrel chamber, forgot to FLS it before loading

I realise that it is probably not really safe to do, but I hate inertia hammering and buggering up that lovely red plastic tip on the hornady projies.

Thanks for the reply. I have only got the RCBS FL resizing die. Would that be of any use if I pulled out the decapping pin and expander ball?

I know redding type S FLS dies can be used as body dies without the bushing, not sure about your one mate. What cal is it?

Really annoying - was wondering why I had those empty cases in a box by themselves!

I think there was a bloke over on AHN that was doing it.But buggered if I know how I mean would not the loaded diameter of the neck be significantly larger than the die`s internal measurement.

As Brad said a Body die is your friend.

I did it recently with some .223 and nothing blew up!
I just took out the de-priming pin with my Simplex FLS die and lubed and pressed.
One projectile that was anyway a bit loose (my first ever load) came out but all the others were fine.
I don't see why it would be a problem, unless you squashed loads of powder in there.

yes, they chamber fine.

If they chamber okay would they be fine then?

I know you shouldn't mix brass from different chambers etc etc Possibly more and issue when going from a military chamber to a say non military eg 308 and a 308 palma etc.

I would say they should be okay though as long as they aren't jamming projectiles or anything.

I don't think Id do it, would sooner pull the projectile and start again, wouldn't want to risk the increased pressure by squashing the brass even tighter around the projectile.
Would there be a possibility that the projectile would be sized down where it sits into the case ?

Shoot em.
As long as the case doesn't stick, your projectile doesn't seat itself further in the case or jam and your not running max loads... id shoot em.
The case won't be quite at min dimentions but it won't be a problem.
Seen a guy on the range do the same thing in his palma, could only just shut the bolt with a lot of force. He shot two ranges with that ammo no dramas. placed top 3 lol.

Thanks for all of the replies - some good thoughts there.

I have still been using the gun at this stage, but the bolt has to be closed with a lot of force and the force required to lift it again after firing meant that I skun my knuckles the other day

Will continuing to use the gun in this arrangement cause any damage to the bolt e.g. locking lugs etc?

If I had only loaded 20 bullets I would pull them, but I have a hundred or so in this configuration and making follow up shots is completely outa the question at the moment.

I am getting my dad (reloading gear at his house about 250km away!) to try a dummy round in the RCBS FLS to see if it will work to bump the shoulder back. If that doesn't work, I will have to pull the projectiles I guess.

I would pull em if your bolt is taking that much effort to open.Set your full length die to give you a slight crush fit.

Damage could include but not be limited to galling of the locking lugs.

I have a RCBS collet puller. Ive pulled alot of pills with it with very minimal damage if any to them.I don't have a 6mm collet but I can send you the body if some else has the collet. we could borrow.
