Scope choice

G'day all,

I'm looking to upgrade a scope shortly for spring piston use.First choice is a Weaver V16.
I am also looking at the Leupold 3-9x33 EFR,which I believe is well suited to springer use.
Can anyone give me some thoughts/feedback on these two scopes?
The scope will be going on an R1,HW80 and or a HW97.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have a weaver v16. It's very clear to look through and I have no complaints it has an adjustable objective which is good for air rifles. Mines on my theoben so I don't know how they would perform on a springer.

I have been using a Simmons 4-12 x 44 supplied by Lewis when he had the shop running. Awesome scope for the Diana 34. Bombproof really. Many Simmons scopes are airgun rated apparently. Some good bargains on them, if you wish to purchase from overseas.

Ian I have had a 3-9X EFR for a couple of years on my FWB 300S where it has done great service; It has also been on a Brno Hornet and is presently on my old Excalibre for some research. It is very clear, small and light (heavy scopes tend to move more on any heavy recoil rifle).

The cross hairs are quite fine. ... I can recommend it.

Because its AO has a wide range excursion it requires attention to have the parallax adjusted correctly for finest shooting at close ranges.

Consider also the Clearidge 3-9x32 Ultra RM. Airgun rated, compact with a lifetime warranty. Got one on my .22lr and it is top quality.

I have been using a 4x32 mini for a few years which has been very handy especially for
close range rats.I find it to be fast on target,weighs next to nothing,and not too lacking
for longer shots,but an upgrade is about due.Mind you I wouldn't part with it.

Harry there is a 2 month wait on the Leupold unfortunately,so I'm not able to get a first
hand look at one just yet.Hear nothing but good things about them.

Chrispy I'm always on the lookout for a stray Simmons WTC,no luck yet.

Had not considered clearidge,thanks Fenring.

I asked Lewis what he would recommend and he said the Sightron 3-9x36,so I need to
get cracking on that first and foremost I think.

I'll see how I go with the Sightron first up.Being fairly compact it might better suit my uses.

I regularly use one of these on my target rimfire and it's a very very nice scope for a lot less than many......

....but as Ian said, it is a fairly big scope.

Got the scope sorted.I managed to pick up a Leupold efr 3-9x.
Very clear,sharp image,as Harry said and the fine duplex has been excellent for daytime use.
I had some reservations about being able to see the crosshair clearly under a low light I'm
using for rats,and it does need some getting used to but it's working well.

If you haven't already done so Ian, wind it back to 4 or 6X where the exit pupil will be bigger than your own pupil for low light. Plenty accurate for rats' range.

Already onto it Harry.4x has the edge over 6x at the low light levels I'm using.
