Pissing down rain for a day or two so caught up on some loose ends ie finally got my 20 PPC bedded trigger fitted scope mounted etc, packed all my loading gear powders etc in the Troopy and headed up to Seaham SSAA range.
On the way to the range called in at the LGS and got some 8208.
Loaded some BM2 loads that I knew would be close then loaded some Rel 10X using 204 load data then carefully working up. The BM2 loads shot under .5 @3950 fps the Rel 10X shot the same with 4100 max 4050 min doesn't fill the case as good as I would like. The data I had for the 204 with 8208 was 27.5 to 29 with 32gn projectiles. Started at 27 and worked up to 28.3 with no signs of pressure my crono must of got some water in it as it refused to tell me the velocities. Tried a couple of different lenghts and will work on these later. The 8208 fills the 20 PPC just nice and I will definatly do some more development with this powder. In the meantime Sako Sam was busy with his 708 20 Tact and 17 Ackley Hornet but that is a story I will let him tell.
Not a bad way to spend a rainy day with hardly any wind.

Ha, I practically begged you to shoot my 6mmSLR and you wasn't game because of the group I put down at 200 and yes you and others told me my chrono would get water in it.

You and Sako Sam should be bringing your toys back down for a play.
I am really keen to see how that 8208 goes please keep us posted.
No rain here but the wind has not dropped under 30 k for three days

Re: A day at the range
A bit of an update on the 8208 shot a few out of the 20 PPC put
them over the chrono.
28.3 gns 8208 32gn zmax 4112, 4098, 4126, 4098, 4112 average 4111fps es 28fps
.4 group.
27.4gn 8208 40gn vmax 3878, 3883, 3878, 3873, 3863. average 3875fps es 20fps. this grouped about .75 but
could do with some tweeking with OAL.
All these loads were dropped out of powder dropper not single weighed.
Hope this helps with anyone thinking of using Benchmark 8208.
Cheers

A day at the range
G'day Ol 55,
I myself am very interested in trialling the 8208 powder.
From what I've heard it was engineered for the Defence Force and is a very stable powder across a vast range of climates.
The 40 grn load that you detailed sounds like a very consistent load.
Regards
Sean

Re: A day at the range
Best I could measure about .4 @ 200yds. About 1'' low came up 2 clicks shot at another aiming markAckley Improved wrote:So the 6mmSLR is smoking hot??
and put 2 touching exactly at point of aim.
I can't shoot any better than that.

Only shot the one group don't want to waist any more of your loads on paper.
