flip

I did a bit of reading before deciding upon the .17AH. The used rifle I bought had a 24" heavy varmint barrel so I had it cut back to 20" and re-crowned. The argument is that friction starts to play a more significant role with a small diameter projectile using only a small powder volume. I never chronographed the orginal 24" barrel, but lets just say I'm happy with 3800 fps I'm getting out of the 20" barrel using the load data I sent you.

You've probably already done some playing around with your 17 HH by now but I'll give you a little bit of info from my 17 Ackley.
With 2207 I've loaded up to 12.4gn with 20gn Berger pills (3 shots into .3"). I'm not too sure how you would go fitting that much into the Hornady case as I'm quite sure they will be thicker than the Winchester Hornet brass I'm using.
I use CCI 500 small pistol primers exclusively in my 17 AH and 22 Hornet

This is a typical group shot with my 17 Ackley note the need for a fouling shot as the first shot went low and 400fps slower.
From my research the 17 HH is shorter by .125'' maybe 1/1.5 gns less capacity but if it ges half as good as the Ackley you won't be dissapointed.

Any you 17 Ackely blokes want some brass, got give a box of them the other week but got nothing to do with them, and to quote good old johno1, "There are no more builds here", well for a while  , so hands up if you want them, all itll cost is SFA. I have no idea of the history of them, dont even what brand they are, so if you are up for a punt, let me know. They have been fired and there is well over a hundred.

I run 2205 in my .17AH with 20gn bullets. I have 2 loads 1 uses a 20gn dogtown bullet at 3400fps for bunnies, the other is a 20gn Vmax at 3800fps for longer shots on rabbits and foxes. I would be the powder I'd be looking to if you only wanted to run 20gn bullets.

Camel if those .17AH cases don't end up getting taken I'd be keen to give them a new home.
