I'm gonna buy a Hummer

Post by Puddles »

I'm gonna buy a hummer and am torn between brands.

I was thinking of a Savage as i have seen and heard the results of other members, i was also thinking of a CZ. My father in law has a 452 .22 and it is a beautiful firearm, should i spent the extra on a CZ?

Thanks guys

It really depends on what you want mate, both will shoot well. I love my CZ 452 22lr but I would buy a 17hmr as well so its entirely up to you.

I think the CZ is overall a better more solid rifle but the Savages are great for the price and still will last a lifetime.

Mate do yourself a favour and get a CZ, Ive got the 453 varmint version and have put a Boyds T/Hole stock on it, unreal accuracy, mine likes the Federal Premium 17gners, managed to drop a couple of boars the other night, great fox/cat gun, and just fun to shoot. I also got a aftermarket 10 shot plastic magazine, the only problem Ive had with mine was the original magazine is a bit rough feeding.

I really like my Savage, but IMO Ruger are a better made and designed rifle than the Savage or CZ. And 9 rounds in a flush fitting mag. :)

I also have a CZ 452 and have always greatly enjoyed it, i have never had problems some people have encounted with foxes not going down well. it has always dropped them really well out to 150 and rabbits are just too easy

It is a great rifle to carry on an walk through the scrub,

I'm trying really hard not to get rid of it, was going to give it to my brother to make room in the safe for the 17 HH so might just go get another safe if I can sneak it past the misses.

My apprentice after using mine one weekend also had to have one but he went and bought a Browning T Bolt. Also a great rifle shoot really well and his came with a second mag that stores in the butt only in the syntho model. Although a little pricey

The CZ is pritty hard to go past. But at the same time nothing wrong with the savage.

Best of Luck with the decision.

Handle one and see if you like it. Some folks find them too heavy for a walkabout rig if that's what you are going to be doing.

IMO the Varmint or the American are the pick of the CZ's. I don't care for the Classic hogsback stock, the comb is too low for proper cheek weld with a scope.

I wish I had of bought my HMR years ago and have found the Savage base model exceptionally accurate and well made for the price.

I've spent $700 including a good scope and think I've got great value and sure a CZ with a quality scope would be near double.

I own a CZ .22 and appreciate where the quality is but needed to lighten the trigger to get the best out of i and love it as well. Extra dollars spent on a scope is what I think is smart leaving no qualms spending up on ammunition.

Everyone to their own though.

Take Fenrings advice matte the Ruger is a better finished rifle with a better of the shelf trigger. The Varmint is to front heavy for a walkabout gun IMO.Why not have a look at an Anshutz for not much more coin you will have one of the better rim fire actions in a rifle that just balances a whole lot better with a far superior trigger

I like the value of savages, and love accutriggers, but haven't shot one in 17hmr.

I did just see these on the net, though.......

In the end, buy the rifle that feels right for you, whatever that is. All the decent brands will last, so a few extra shackles can put a bit of gun porn in your safe, if that's your fancy.......

http://usedguns.com.au/Product.aspx?p=7675

and I think the annie is the way I would end up going if I was buying a 17hmr.

Enjoy the shopping, regards, curan

Thanks for the input guys, I was at the LGS during the week feeling a couple of rifles out. Fell in love with the CZ 455 varmint thumb hole, just waiting for the PTA to come through.
