well i love my bruno .17 ackley hornet , been using it for 30 years and i love it every time i pick it up .its got a vx111 3.5-10x50 on top .nothing better than watching them through the scope coming in to the whistle and setting the trigger ready for the right spot to stop em for the delilvery .

Hummer works for me. 22 foxes in one night, reckon it works OK.

Re: The Perfect Fox Whistling Rifle.
I also like my CZ 17 HMR, Relatively quiet and hit's hard for it's size and is really easy to carry on long walks between stands. I have not had a fox get up after a hit from it yet.
I'm waiting eagerly for the arrival of the 17 HH ( first shipment due end of November apparently)I am hoping it will be just as good if not slightly better for the longer shots.
I have also found that it often pays to have the 12 g at hand as some times you get bush whacked buy one that either sneaks up from behind or comes is so fast that the shotty is required. if there is two of us shooting i will normally take the U/O and it is surprising how often it comes in handy even if one spooks and gets wind of you and starts to move off quick the OL BB's move just that bit faster.
I don't own one but have often thought a combi gun might be nice either 20g or 12g with a 222rem or the like. People that have them seem to like them very much.

Hmmm I love my CZ 550 Clasic in 30-06 for Foxes, but my Tikka T3 in 222 Rem is more what you have asked for I guess.
Hits 5 shots into a 10 cent coin at 100m, very mild to shoot, not a "boomer" in noise value, easy to get ammo if you dont reload.
Has a Pentax 4.5 - 14 x 40 on top.

Close to it, I've found my 22mag/20ga combo covers 99% of whistling shots.foxhunter223 wrote:Tikka 12ga/222 over and under, best fox gun on the planet.

The sweet thing about the 222 is you can load with Blue dot for 22 mag velocity.Close to it, I've found my 22mag/20ga combo covers 99% of whistling shots.

Do you run a scope?
Have an old tasco 1-3.5 on mine, a little more magnification would be nice at times but hard to justify the money for a good 1-6 or 1-7 on a $500 gun.

Re: The Perfect Fox Whistling Rifle.
To be honest its the firearm that's in my hands at the time that gets the job! I love hunting red dogs and generally I take a rifle and shotgun with me as there areas I hunt are generally both open and wooded so the need for both is there (probably should get a combo but I'm happy with the way I hunt, certainly works for me.
Rifles I use are ac 22, 222, 223, 22.250 and the 12g SB shotty. They all get used regularly and are used for different hunting situations whether it be spotlighting, whistling etc.

Re: The Perfect Fox Whistling Rifle.
Hi there, i'm lucky enough to have a CZ512 .22WMR, and so far only needed one bullet for one fox.
Hoping to get another when the rain stops

Re: The Perfect Fox Whistling Rifle.
Great fox round. I recon if you had penny for every fox taken with one you have a stack of cash. Plenty of foxes out in the hills at the moment, they are pairing up double your chances even though they could give two hoots about the call.
Good work, keep it up
