300m.. 10 twist... The 87Vmax are not a bad bullet, and you should be able to get to the 3000fps mark with them. If the stock is a varminter/sporter, grab some aluminium and make a 3" plate that goes onto the swivel stub so it can be used ina rest!
What brand are the 95grain match you have? The 90 grain Lapua Scenars would do the trick too.
That's a bummer, ogre6br; good luck with the treatment, and a quick recovery.
on the subject of a BIIIIG get-together of we 'AusVarminters' in the future, is there anywhere in central/northern NSW (seems to ba a pretty central location given how widespread we are) that some of you might know where we can have a 'shoot-in' in the future, like a year or two? I know it's a longish way ahead but have a think about it and see what we can come up with...
The other halves can go touristing and we could all make a holiday of it.
the WOOB
Gday Mitch,
Basic course of fire will be 5 targets shot one at a time with 5 scorers to be fired on each target and a max of 3 sighters allowed per target which are fired onto a sighting medium bellow the score target.
Shooters will be in details and there will be approx 1/2 hour between each target you will shoot at by the time the other details go through.
Will i count you in?
Gauge is apparently being sent next week and i am waiting for the registry to get back to me regarding paper work.
cheers,
Shane
You can count me in on the Sunday. I also sweet talked the old man into comming over as well. I think I will give you that Omark to do the new stock then, if that is OK with you.
G'day Shane, how are you going. Mate things have slowed heaps since the young fella arrived.
I've been reading about this shoot and checked the calander, and luckily my aunties 60th is the weekend after, so count me in.
What sort/size of groups do they shoot with the RF's and what size groups does the average punter with a hunting rifle acheive?
What do you recomend I take the .223 sporter or the Rem.250 vsf?
No Problems Mitch, i will put you both down for centerfire on the sunday.
Yeh mate i will grab the omark then thats fine.
Will just check on the names of the roads and let you know how to get there. I never look at the road names as i have been there that many times and cannot remember for sure which ones they are.
Gday Knackers, i will put you down. Are you shooting both days?
With the conditions we usually get i expect the average 200m rimfire groups will be around the 5-6 inch mark. These rifles are capable of much better but the conditions will hamper that. Work on the fact that most of your shots will be scoring ones and come and enjoy the day.
Out of your 223 and 22-250 which is the most consisantly accurate? Which ever it is bring that one. If they are much the same bring the 250 as it will work better in the wind over there.
Are you going to be at the Wagga LV/HV bench shoot in a couple of weeks?
cheers,
Shane
Hi Shane, I dont think I will be coming on both days and I'll have to find out which day I can come.
My parents are coming up to stay for the weekend and we are calving ATM so I am checking heifers twice a day for the next 8 weeks.
Yes I am keen on the LV/HV shoot at Wagga, but once again will have to see if someone can look after calving for me.
Whats the chance of fitting in a trigger jobbie on the MPR before Leeton?
If it helps anyone out, they can camp in the shears quarters here to save some dollars if they want. I am about 1 hour east of Leeton, about half way between Wagga and Narrandera.
Seems a definite I am coming now.
I am coming for a the fun of it and am not stupid enough to think I will be competetive, but might as well try as best I can.
Now my 22 is a Henry 15 shot lever. Fun for shooting cans or the odd rabbit, but it shoots patterns, not groups! If I give the 22 comp a miss will I be able to set up some targets to play with other rifles on another part of the range?
So far my 6/250 hunting load is with the 65VM. From the projie swap post I now have some 80gn NBTs and 87VMs, 70gn flat base berger HPs and 70gn sierra matchkings.
Would it be worth trying to find an accurate load with a heavier projie?
Oh and of course, since this was your idea Rinso, some tuition might be nice!!!
I dont own a spotting scope, assuming you would need one. Will someone be able to help me out on the day?
Mate I would not be to worried about fiddling with loads unless you intend to go buy some HPBT match and start from there.
Remember the shoot at Leeton is only 300m, thats fine for a varmit rifle as long as you do your bit.
Pay attention when loading your ammo .. bring plenty and relax. I will be happy to give you some advice on the day.
Its FUN, if I shoot I won't be using my Heavy gun I will shoot a Win M70 featherweight with anything from 75 Vmax to 90 Seirra HP depending on what I can find in the shed and again thats IF I shoot.
Just use a load you are confident with. Us ethe Henry in the rimfire .. you have nothing else to do and you might just suprise yourself.
Rinso, you seem pretty wise to this event, so I'm wondering if you can tell me exactly how it is shot?I havn't done this one before.
I figure that its not off the bench, so what can you use as far as F/R sand bags, Bi-pods, can you have any scope etc.
