what else to do ?

Post by LoneRider »

today because i had not much else to do,and because i had been meaning to for awhile.
i got out the old ,recently refurbed BSA meteor.
i had purchased a scope from Lewis and hadnt yet sighted it in.
i dropped the sides of the ol ute,set up the foam rest i use over the bonnet and paces out
roughly 10 meters where i placed a movers box.
with a few different boxes of .177 ammo at hand i got to the task to first get it on the money
then find out what it liked.

ammo selection:
bog standard winchester .177 air rifle pellets.
GAMO Pro Magnum
GAMO [flat faced wad cutters] the can is loosing the writing.
winchester supreme.
and winchester "olin" pellets.[the difference is the quality and the cardboard box]

i used the bog standards to sight it in with Image
then set about the fodder test.
first up was again the bog standards to get a feel for it.
Image
second set were the gamo pro magnums.

third are the wad cutters

followed by the winchester supreme

and the winchester olin pellets.

by this time the midday sun was starting to get things warmed up and everything
was starting to shoot high.
so i again checked with the bog standards and the wad cutters.

still, she's getting some good groups with the wad cutters.
seems to be the prefered fodder at this point.
i think with a trigger job ,its very heavy, this old pop gun should do alright
in the 10 meter at newcastle against my ol dad and his tricked GAMO.

Nice LR, looks to have some nice potential. If you can find some JSB diablo's they usually are the bees knees. My .20 R9 loves H&N Field and target trophy, JSB Diablo's and pretty much any diablo shaped pellets shoots well. You could ask Lewis if he has any left. But those wadcutters look the goods!

Is that 10m standing or of a rest at Newey?

thanks Ryan.
i thinks its standing but that could be from showing them up with the worn out "chinese assault rifle" and open sites.
they like it quiet when they shoot but gave me heaps of stick when i shot.
almost did better than all of them.but i was getting pissed off.

i think most of them used a rest for the most part.
i will see what me ol dad has in his kit.i think he has jsb's

RWS make some reasonable pellets, but H&N and definitely the light/lightest JSB's are worth a look.

I've had pretty poor performance with Winchester and especially Gamo pellets. I never even try them in anything anymore.

Have fun.

Those look like older Gamo wads - the newest ones are shit quality in .177.

Bang for the buck, the RWS Superdome is great quality. Wadcutter wise, their Meisterkugeln are also really good. Pointed - the Superpoint is great quality too.

Any of the Beeman and JSB stuff sold by Lewis is also top notch.

That's a neat looking Super Meteor with the scope - is it a G+R?
