Nice to put a face to a name......

Post by curan »

Hi fellas,

I got my first face to face meeting with another long time ausvarminter last night, and it was really nice to meet Chris L, who turned out to be a real nice fella.
(no big surprise there, I s'pose, after reading this site for a few years)

He let me have a hold of his FWB124 (drool, it's a lovely airgun), and donated some targets and assorted bits of kit to my local club for the juniors. Like I said, a real good bloke.
I was running late and a little short on time, but there was enough time to chat briefly about airgunning stuff, and it was all good.
Hopefully next time we catch up, I'll have time for the cuppa that was offered (but passed up) last night.

Thanks for everything Chris!

regards, curan.

People don't come much better than Chris L!
He was a terrific Beeman customer and even better friend!
Thanks Chris,
Lewis

I'm blushing, curan and Lewis

Creaking bones (plus the new metal ones - my hip and Lesley's knee set off my metal detector!) mean that kneeling and lying prone are just too hard these days, and I'm more than happy to pass stuff on that we no longer use.

I found some interesting things when looking for stuff for curan's kids, including some of Dick Otten's field targets (http://fieldtargets.com/) - how could I forget them?

And the gun safes used to be full with nothing but gear from Lewis - what your council did to Beeman was criminal.

G'day Keith :D

its peaple like these we need posting memoirs and experience,if they dont have much else to say.
share your experience with firearms/ammo/ranges and peaple guys.
anything at all.
so much good info to loose.
so many stories.
we loose so much when vets pass along,we need the stories to be told.so we remember.
even if its just days hunting or at the range with your favourite,or not, firearm.

My Story is simple i got to meet some great people including Lewis from being a customer of his. I spent a lot of time over in Adelaide with Paul J shooting Air rifle,Rimfire and CF Silhouette .We did a lot of Pigeon shooting as well,
great fun and memorys. Paul travelled over my way a lot as well to shoot in many comps we ran in Bendigo as well as many pest control shoots we did . I'll never forget the time when Lewis had Beeman up and running and i just can't thank him enough for the great Air rifle collection i have .

Regards

Agreed. I love reading peoples stories. Being 27, i've dipped out on alot of things that were common place before my time. I love reading peoples tales of how things used to be when they were a kid; going to cadets on the bus with a rifle slung over their shoulder and no one batting a eyelid etc. I love that stuff.
Makes me so angry when I think about all the great stories that I never got to hear from people that have long since 'shoved off', because I was too young and either not interested or wouldn't make the time.
People might be surprised how interesting others might find their stories, even if they themselves believe them to be of little or no significance.

Curan and I just visited the Police Station.

Who can guess why?

A hint - Curan's head may split in half if his grin gets any bigger :D

Yep LR, I am now the proud owner of Chris L's 1980 FWB 124s, and you should have seen the smile on my dial at the range today! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Smallest group at 25m with my forward hand cradled by a sandbag.........

I learnt a bit about how it likes to be held, and the group shown above was with a medium firm hold. Gentle holds open up the groups to just over an inch. Very firm holds seem to have the groups around 1 inch. So it likes a cuddle, not a strangle.
The trigger is very nice, and the rifle is very smooth to shoot. I had a ball.

And once again, dealing with Chris L was a joy. He offered me the scoped FWB at an irresistably good price, then threw in pellets, bag, sling, pretty much all the bits and pieces, loaded me up with additional gear for the juniors at my local club (slings, resettable targets, pellet trays and more), we had an excellent chat, and he crowned it all by handing me a stubby of Coopers!

Life is very good, and Chris is an absolute gent. 8) Thanks again Chris!

cheers, curan

Curan - you are making me blush

Lewis sold it to me for a great price, so I was more than happy to pass it on accordingly.
It's a glorious Sporter specimen (just the one ding, IIRC), made better by Lewis putting the JM spring and seal in it.

Having helped to run a Juniors group makes you understand how difficult it is to fund it, so you (and they) were very welcome to things that we no longer were using.

Enjoy, mate!
