I have a Lightforce 170 with a 35w HID conversion. This is an awesome light, but takes a bit to get used to the blue/white light as opposed to the yellow of a normal halogen globe. My dad has a Lightforce 240 with a 55w HID conversion - this light is fantastic, it throws a lot broader beam than the 170.

I was interested to see what people's thoughts and Experiance with the variouse light are that are available, at the moment we run a light force 240 on the window mount handle a hand held 170 and then 2 sealions an d a P7. We are looking to mount one through the cab roof, just not sure which one. Leaning toward the big power beam or is the Blazerlight can't remember now with the folding handle but the HID lights have caught my eye too.

It's hard. As it's a bit of coin to get one that is a bit Blaaah.

Old Hella marine 4” 100w sealed beam, been kicking around for a long time but pretty durable, and it’s still available I see (part #1520) modified mine with longer lead and alligator clips, quite adequate for the occasional prowl around.

The 35 & 55w HID globes retail for around $30-60. The main cost is getting the ballasts (which convert 12v into something like 25000v output). I have just bought another 35w ballast for $88. Then you need to get a nylon insert for the Lightforce to enable the globe to fit snug and associated clips and wiring to hook the ballast up to the battery. Sounds like a bit of rooting around, but definately worth it! If you do it, don't put an on/off swith on the output side of the ballast, if it shorts you are toast!

There seems to be alot of people using Lightforce. Whats the advantage over others? is it weight?

Probably the weight and the price. A LF 240 is about the half the price of a powabeam. Only paid 120 for mine off used guns. Powabeam is superior light, a mate has a 245 powabeam and its a whiter more penetrating light even though there both halogens.
Just how my eyes see it though.

just a quick word of warning with HID lights ,,dont go playing with the ballast if you have power pobulms..they will bite you...very badly....there is nothing around that can check the output voltage on the ballast. if the light dont work, and its not the bulb...throw it away
