I load 19.5gn of AR2207 with the 40gn v-max and CCI SR primers for my Anschutz .222, and it shoots very well - well under 1" at 100m, with a the occasional 1/4" group. With the same components this charge weight is also the best grouping in my Sako A1, but group sizes hover around the 1" mark. I have been keen to try and improve this.
After some reading and consultation of the ADI reloading guide I decided to try BM1. Trial of five different loads with 0.5gn increments, and 22.0gn seemed to show the best grouping. I then loaded up some confirmation loads; 5 cases using CCI SR primers, 5 with Remington SR Benchrest primers, and all with 22.0gn powder and the 40gn v-max. The photo below shows the result. I think the benchrest primers will now be a key part of this rifles diet!
As always groups are shot off a bipod with a home-made butt rest (basically a plastic bag of sand). Scope is an 8x Leupold, with the cross-hairs completely covering the blue sticky dot aim point, which probably explains the flyers.

There must be something about 40 gr V-Max,BM1 and the 222.
This is six(6) shots (witnessed) from my L461 sporter using 22.5 grs of BM1 behind the 40 v-max.The 4 holes to the lower right are 40 Bt`s-

It could be just a 40gv VMax and .222 thing.MISSED wrote:There must be something about 40 gr V-Max,BM1 and the 222.
Hornady 40gr Vmax, 22.8gr (top) and 23.0gr (bottom) AR2219, OAL = 55.72mm.

Could be right even my old pitted barreled 222 seems to shoot 40gr V-Max better than anything elseMulga wrote:It could be just a 40gv VMax and .222 thing.MISSED wrote:There must be something about 40 gr V-Max,BM1 and the 222.

Maybe just a V-Max thing as well, they shoot pretty good in my 5.7 Johnson, sorri no pictures, 18mm 5 shots with 12.5 ar2207, through a rechambered long throat ZKW465 hornet barrel.
