So.... the Steyr LG110 HP is all fitted out, scuba tank gettign filled tomorrow... Sunday will be sight in.
I have about 900 odd JSB Exact Jumbo 22 pellets here, seem a pretty universal pellet. It got me thinking on which pellets I should be using for this air rifle. I will shoot some targets for fun, but will be used for hunting rabbits as well.
I was looking at the Polymer Predator pellets, these any good? They accurate? What about the JSB Jumbo Straton? Or just stock with dome pellets for all round paper punching and rabbit smashing?
Checking out my Local gunshop... it seems the best they have to offer is some RWS stuff... not much chop?
Cheers

Re: Which Pellets for my Steyr?
AI do some searching in the Air rifle area and see Harry's posts on the JSB Predators (the plastic tipped ones) they are a fantastic hunting pellet and accurate to boot. You will prob find something like the JSB Exacts will be more accurate but the predators do hold there own. They mess up Mynah's real bad, the exacts will also work on game but the predators are like shooting varmint tipped prj's out of the powder burner especially with a pcp with some power behind them.
Other pellets are Beeman Kodiaks/H&N Barracudas, I think crow magnums and H&N FTT are pretty reputable but your range in 22 is a lot bigger than mine in 20cal.

Try the JSB Exact Jumbo Heavies (the 18gr ones). Nice pellet and should shoot very nicely out of the steyr.
Beautiful rig.

I've always found RWS pellets to be great quality - it comes down to if they suit your rifle and application.

Re: Which Pellets for my Steyr?
Have to say that I'd at least try the Predator Polymags.
I've used the .22 polymags in gas ram air rifles for hunting at 16 ft/lbs and under and they put the smackdown on quarry that domes take longer to bring down. For me its a ethical issue........bring them down quick as possible without suffering. Polymags do much more in this regard on varmint size quarry, accounting for hundreds of our imported furry pest species.
I've used .177 polymags in my Steyr when doing paid pest control work around granaries, feedmills and in supermarkets, and the Steyr eats them almost as good as JSB Exacts (which it likes absolutely the best of any pellet (the lead alloy content is the purist of any brand).
A Sparrow size pest bird unrested at 55 yards; with confidence, is what I consider normal accuracy potential with predator polymags out of my .177 Steyr at 12 ft/lbs. Your .22 cal Steyr at a higher energy should be usable out to 80/90 yards with either domed or polymags if you do your research and rangefind accurately.
Ok, the above claims may be hard to swallow for some. I'm not personally fussed.......not trying to impress anyone. I'm just sayin the Predators really perform, and will do what you ask of them especially out of a Steyr barrel. Try to get the 5.52mm head size rather than 5.50mm head size.
I'm both an airgun pest hunter and a Field Target shooter, and appreciate what works, and what don't.
regards
