The only benchrest event that allows a spotter is the 'Fly'. There is no definition of what he or she may do to assist the shooter. Obviously finding the bullet hole and indicating fall of shot is the primary activity. No one would object if a tweak on the windage knob were offered after a sighter shot but shot by shot adjustment as in full-bore shooting would have to be done by the shooter. It is also common practice for the spotter to monitor the flags and make suggestions as to when not to shoot, but to advise the shooter when to fire would be deemed as coaching and turn the shooter into merely a trigger puller. The fore-going is what has evolved over the last twenty years and is normally adhered to by regular competitors. Some shooters may shoot only with hold-off, others such as myself will often make a coarse adjustment after the first sighter and only use hold-off once on the business target. Very few would adjust shot by shot as it tends to slow one down and break concentration of the flag reading. Remember that the 10 ring is only 1/4 moa at 500mt!

A spotter or coach would also be allowed in 1000yd BR, however, only during the sighter period. There is no resitriction on what they can do, but assistance or coaching is strictly prohibited during the record period.
