Practical Rifle Match - 8 May 2011
Gents,
Some mates and I have put together a practical shooting match to take place on the 8th May here in Canberra @ the NRA range.
Some basic guidelines:
All gear must be carried from shooting mound to mound i.e. pack light and ensure that your gear is easily and quickly portable.
Rear bags will be permitted, in the spirit of this match we encourage improvised or lighter/smaller rear bags. Any front rest is permissible however we strongly advise that shooters use bipods only. Please note that aside from initial zero @ 700m there will be no sighters permitted i.e. Know your dope and be comfortable with your adjustments prior to arriving for this match.
In designing this match we have tried to cater for a wide range of shooters who may be interested in practical shooting. As such the COF is challenging without being overly so. Our aim is that shooters new to the sport will leave having been encouraged to shoot more such matches in future.
There are approximately 30 spots available to shooters for this match, shooting spots will be secured via registration on a first come first serve basis.
To register for this event or to pose any questions please contact Simon Ross on (02) 62295130 or (04) 21 059 614. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
Cheers,
Clyde

Rath,
Pardon my ignorance, but what is COF?
Are brakes allowed?
Albert.

Hey Rath,
Can you describe each of the shoots, for us uninitiated but curious newbies? I don't think I'll have my TRG by then, unfortunately... But it sounds like a lot of fun!
I can only imagine shooting the TRG42 .300WM off-hand standing!

Go here for some good info:
http://demigodllc.com/articles/practica ... equipment/
http://demigodllc.com/articles/practica ... ng-optics/
http://demigodllc.com/articles/practica ... -shooting/
Our shoot will not be as dynamic as the tactical matches in the US, hopefully we can progress to that point over time.
The shoot is well detailed in the flyer, do you have a more specific question?
Cheers,
Rath

Rath - that sounds like a fun event. Are you planning on holding this every year?
I don't have a rifle that is up to the 700m bit (and have never shot that far either), but will wander across on Sunday to take a look anyway.

Re: Practical Rifle Match - 8 May 2011
Thanks Jas, getting time to get on is always a problem.
I should also ask, do you have to use the same rifle for the entire COF or can you use a couple?
Hmmm i think the 8th is mothers day too, Ouch.
cheers,
Shane

Re: Practical Rifle Match - 8 May 2011
Shane as much as we would like to see an AR15 make an appearance It aint going to happen..
In the spirit of this type of match it's one rifle for the entire match, I'd also like to switch to something lighter for the offhand and seated/kneeling stages
Go here for an idea on how these matches run in the US: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthr ... w=1#UNREAD
Cheers,
Clyde

Re: Practical Rifle Match - 8 May 2011
Will be great... it will evolve over time I would imagine. I would like to see it run a more than a couple of times a year also.
Shane... switch barrel no go... might dedicate a rifle to this match! We should discuss the ultimate rifle to use for this....
Garand?
Cheers
