Misfires in The New RWS R-50.??
G"day All
Wondering if anyone has come across misfires in the new and old RWS R50.??
Ive had 2 from one brick of old R-50 and 1 from a new batch(shiny gold) R-50.
Just last night one of the other shooters at our club also had a misfire from the new stuff.
Both these guns have never misfired on other brands of ammo and on inspection of the case from each
incident there was plenty of compression of the rim.
Not good for the pride of RWS ammo.
Regards

Re: Misfires in The New RWS R-50.??
G'day Native,
Although I haven't shot Club for many months now I can tell you that in the last 3 cases of (shiny brick) that amounts to 5000 per case we have never had a misfire. That's 15,000 rounds collectively and fired from 3 different rifles.
Perhaps it may be relative to poorly maintained firearms or an oily firing pin. On a cold night, a firing pin that has somehow become gunked up and that does not strike with enough force will indent the rim but not discharge the round or will cause a delayed ignition which will generally result with a stray shot (having had flinched after detonation).
I doubt very much that the quality control measures in place at the RWS manufacturing facility has gone down hill taking into consideration that Germans are renown for being extremely anal in regard to tolerances and there engineering finesse.
Perhaps it's worth an email to the Company-you never know, they may reward your troubles.
Regards
Sean

Poorly maintained firearms is an insult, it's not that I can tell ya, these guns shoot 199-200 week I'n week out, we are meticulous aboutour guns and it's not maintainence that is a problem, the round last night was almostcut through the rim by three succeses firings on one the one case !!
I like RWS but these type of incidence getme thinking !!

Did you twist the case after miss fire?native hunter wrote:Poorly maintained firearms is an insult, it's not that I can tell ya, these guns shoot 199-200 week I'n week out, we are meticulous aboutour guns and it's not maintainence that is a problem, the round last night was almostcut through the rim by three succeses firings on one the one case !!

No point hitting the same point if there isn't any priming compound there to ignite. If the case was turn and was nearly cut through then the firing pin is bloody strong.

Hey Damien I wasn't alluding to poor maintenance on your behalf I was just saying thats all, also when mine played up I found that if I just recocked the bolt and tried again nine times out of ten it would fire.............................................still shithouse and very disconcerting when it happens though regardless wether you know why or not its happening.native hunter wrote:Poorly maintained firearms is an insult, it's not that I can tell ya, these guns shoot 199-200 week I'n week out, we are meticulous aboutour guns and it's not maintainence that is a problem, the round last night was almostcut through the rim by three succeses firings on one the one case !!

Hey Sean dont make that mistake................................I have and still do work on Mercedes Benz vehicles and I also process the warranties associated with them as well ,I do agree that Damien should inform the distributor about his troubles.Sean Ambrose wrote: Germans are renown for being extremely anal in regard to tolerances and there engineering finesse.

Re: Misfires in The New RWS R-50.??
not quite the same thing but ive had a few cases where the firing pin has struck, left a nice indent but not fired,up to 8 times in one case.
turned out to be a bit of gunk...not much but a little bit where the firing pin hit the inside of the bolt.didnt happen all the time...just now and then.
i turned the case over to give the pin a new place to hit each time it missfired.
this was with a 22 and wini subs.
rifle was a norinco JW15A 22 short barrel rabbit gun.but ive had the same problem with the ol mossy 22.
lil bit of dust and oil and intermitant bolt blockage....
im not saying thats what your problem is but its worth looking at.

Sean do u brush your teeth through your arse, or you just do not realise you are insulting people? I would have thought also that if you flinched after detonation it would not really matter as the projy would be gone but if however you flinched after releasing the firing pin but before detonation that it would be considered poor technique and yes indeed would result in a stray hole in the target.

Do I brush my teeth through my arse...?
No, I am not familiar with this method, however, I have often wondered about the copious amounts of shit that I hear spruiked at the range such as head shooting camels out to a 1000 yards, shooting rabbits out at 600 (Iron sights and with a clapped out battle stick) and numerous other tales that exceed the parameters of physics. In regard to this method of dental Hygiene if you are speaking from experience then please do tell. I had only ever concluded that such Shooter/s perhaps only ever needed a freshmint and that it was not relative to such method of brushing ones teeth. I must confess though it sounds quiet kinky.
Excuse the obvious and my French. It was never meant to offend. I never realised that we have so many sensitive new age types within the fraternity We can only hope that one does not squat when he takes a piss.
You are correct, after detonation, I meant prior to detonation and being delayed. It's not exactly hard for a firing pin to become somewhat sticky although perhaps it could also be a faulty spring within the bolt assembly.
Regards
Sean

We can only hope that one does not squat when he takes a piss. Yet another example of you not thinking before you type, now you look sexist as well. Regardless of if you mean it or not things do not always come across in print as they do spoken.
