The "synthetic" stock is actually painted beech.

The hunter stock is a vast improvement in terms of cheek weld and looks fantastic. Most people find the HP stock to be too low to get any sort of cheek weld, why they went with that stock design has got me stuffed. The HP is a great candidate for gluing something on to raise the cheek piece.

Nice guns though, but as said. Loud.

Probably the worst feature of the Steyr though is the fact you have to unscrew the cylinder to refill (not the end of the world but I find it a bit of a PITA). It would be nice if they went to a quick fill (you can convert them but usually the easiest route is to sacrifice the manometer gauge).

But at these power levels I'd look at .22 over 20 cal. Much bigger pellet selection, easier to find and if you look at ballistics calculators for the velocities these rifles are set at you are looking at the same trajectory for .22 vs .20 anyway so you might as well whack em with the .22.

I think standard the .20 cal does around 24fpe, the .22 does 28-30fpe. Run the figures in chair gun and you'll see why you might as well go for the .22.

Thanks JD so the hunter is the pick my reason for 20 cal OS I already have a T9 in 20 so would be easier I don't want the most powerful.

Anyway it will be a bit off plenty of time to save

I think so, unless you want to work a bit of wood magic on the stock (who has the balls to do that on a $2000+ rifle  ) or are happy with bench shooting, offhand your head sits a little high with nothing much to press against unless you went with very low rings and a small objective scope.

I can understand the .20 if you already have one. Makes it easy, but I wouldn't use that reason alone to discount the .22. But either way they are all winners, in .177, .20 or .22. You can't go wrong with either and .20 is a good halfway point between the two.
