barrel de-resonator

G"day All,
Up until a few days ago I was using a type of deresonator designed for a bow stabiliser on my barrel and it did not seem to effect it, but today I went to the range after receiving my limbsaver de-resonator and the results for me were not good.
I sighted in with my gun which I know is in tune and removed the old type and shot a group and then put the resonator on and shot three groups and then removed and shot another group,as you can see the resonator destroyed my grouping and I would say altered the harmonics of my barrel.
All i can say is if you have a gun that shoots well and you know is in tune dont worry about trying one of these.!!
I did move it an inch at a time up and down the barrel but the result was the same.
Anyone want to purchase this one to try on their gun.??,i would say it would have a better effect on a rifle without a end barrel tuner.

You have proved it does 'work'. Just not for that load in your rifle (and possibly not for any load in your rifle).

But it did alter the harmonics of your barrel.

Hi All , Yeah im NOT a fan , ive tried two of them on both sporter and heavy barrell rimfires. I gave one away and the other one went all crumberly and i dont know where it is, proberly in the BIN ! I know metal tuners work well ,all of my bench rifles have one on the end. Ive even got a metal mid barrell tuner and results were the same as the rubber barrell de-resonators, wasnt impressed so its in the corner somewhere. Cheers Ron

As adam said. But also, considering your gun shot already, it's not going to show a huge improvement.

As said before, they are not for everyone and not for every gun.

Hi alex , No i have not used one but one thing i will say is that the last thing i would have hanging off my barrel is something made of a flexible material like rubber .. I've spent 15 years trying to get barrel harmonics to a manageable level over the coarse of a full competition time frame and imo you can't do that with this style of device with any repeatability .. JR.. ps centerfire rifles only as i know nothing about bloody rimfires

Not to sure if their legal in aus. Looks like a couple of big grommets that you slide over your barrel to increase accuracy . Has anybody used one?

Native Hunter if you can swap the resonator for some magic beans you might be better off. But don't plant the beans all at once, if they don't grow you can eat the rest.

What's the set up process for these? I assume the "Bull Barrel" model is for 19mm barrels.
I'm ready to believe it might be worth a try in some instances. I don't necessarily let snake oil claims put me off.

Years ago, in desperation, I bought a "snake oil" product and it actually worked for me on that occasion (STP Stop Leak for auto transmissions). And kept working for another 5 years.
So I understand differing results for different circumstances.

Hell, paper bedding a rifle can work too!

So what's the go? Slide it on, shoot a group, slide it a bit further, shoot a group, keep going to find the sweet spot?

First of all, have a gun that really doesn't shoot. I think they work best on those as shown above
where on a gun that shoots, it will change the harmonics and group but doesn't drastically
improve the group.

I will also agree with the poster above that they are not a cheap substitute for bench rest type tuners.

Okay, thanks for the reply.

I was hoping it might make a good rifle better. Mine already shoots 10-12mm groups, so I'll look at other ways to tighten it up. Triggers good, beddings happeniong, so a mechanical tuner looks to be the next step.

I tried one on my CZ 452 varmint barrel which shoots OK, my groups spread out, with more fliers than usual. So I moved it some and my groups looked liked they'd been from a shotgun!
