Crusader 3, Fox 0
Crusader 3, Fox 0
Got this young bitch after catching it snooping about the chook pen this morning. After initially spooking it as I was heading outside for a smoke, it made a bad decision to linger, giving me time to get the Crusader out of the safe. By the time I did, it was just inside our Northern boundary. I took the shot from the dining room sliding door, dropping it after some acrobatics and getting through the fence. Point of impact, 65 metres!!
Cheers

Awesome work - what calibre, and what ammo?
Re: Crusader 3, Fox 0
G'day Fen.
.20 cal and JSB Exact. I spent about 15 minutes on an autopsy. For the life of me I can't find a wound. I was aiming for a head shot fully expecting a miss at that distance. I surprised myself to hear that thud, the scream from the fox and finally the gymnastic show. It took me a couple of minutes to find it, and I was highly surprised when I did, dead as a dodo in the long grass next door about 5 metres outside the fence.
Cheers

Thanks Ray.
I was telling wife about it, when I said I couldn't find a wound on the thing, and doubting my shooting ability she reckons I scared it into jumping onto a brown snake!!

Re: Crusader 3, Fox 0
Rick, I would do another check on the lower back of the head and top of the spine area, I shot one fox with my little Mk 2 Rimmy and got a similar reaction on the hit. On looking I had hit him in the back of the head at the top of the spine and got similar antics to yours.
Strange things happen Ay!
Happy Xmas,
Ray.

Ray.
I've been over that bugger twice now. I initially thought it was young but worn teeth discounted that. It was absolutely infested by lice and I think I've done it a favour! It's getting a bit ripe now so I think I'll leave it and just be happy with the end result.

Nice shot... I wonder how many air-powered fox hunters Australia has now?
If it went down, you hit it. It would run some way if a snake bit it.
I only know of one "woundless injury" - killed a feral cat... ( Well, a cat that outlived it's nine lives on a farm anyway ). The cat was walking away with it's tail up and it dropped on the spot, not a mark on it... Turns out the shot went straight up it's freckle... Took them a while to find it though. Even went as far as shaving it and I'm told it had them scratching their head for a few minutes until they saw a trickle of blood when they lifted it up.

Put a mask on and go and probe just behind the corner of the left eye for a tiny hole.rick342 wrote:Got this young bitch after catching it snooping about the chook pen this morning.
