First reloads...
First reloads...
Heya folks,
I finally got my press out and setup in the new place, went out and bought a set of dies and all the bits and pieces...
Put together some loads for the .270 and shot some paper down at the range yesterday.
Heres the best group of the day: 29mm center to center .........at 200M!!!!!
Why 200M? Dunno, it shot about the same size group (maybe slighty larger) at 100M, just though i'd have a crack further out and f**k me...
Holdover was about 100mm @ 200M
I used:
Winchester once fired brass,
44.5 Grains of AR2208
130 Grain Nosler BTBT's
CCI Large Rifle Primers
I'm pretty happy with the performance as is but i will mess around as see if i can get the groups to close up that little bit more
Anybody else got some recipes for the .270 that i should try?

I would stop there! its a big game round and you've got it rabbit accurte at 200m. Be happy!!
Re: First reloads...
I know... why fix what isn't broken.
But what if that group was half that again!!!
Atleast i know of an accurate load now but i think i will still try to improve it.
130s are a bit of overkill for small critters so i want to try some 90's and 100's see how i go with them.

G'Day Hawkeye,
you'd be surprised at how good a .270 shoots i had a stock Rem700 270W that would shoot less than 3/4moa with sierra 110gn bullets, sold it regretfully to fund a BR rifle. Keep trying you never know how good it might be!

Re: First reloads...
To be honest i would have be happy if it shot a group like that at 100M as it was about 1.5 - 2.0MOA with factory ammo, so a 1MOA with reloads would have been awesome, but at 200M??!! (I havent got myself a spotting scope yet so i didn't know how the group looked until i walked up to collect my target and i nearly fell over!!!)
But yes, i think i've got the accuracy bug... i don't think i'll be happy until i start seeing single ragged holes in the 10 ring!!!

Re: First reloads...
This is shot at 100 yards, and the data is in "American" but whatever H-4831 SC is in "Australian", it's always a good choice. That's five shots, BTW, not three.
Winchester 70 Classic, Leupold Vari-XII, 3-9.
130 Sierra Pro-Hunter (flat-based spitzer)
Federal 215M primer
Winchester cases
59.5gr. H-4831SC
I've been using that load for whitetail deer for several years now, without drama. Even better, I've got a Howa .270 that shoots that load almost as well. Same load, different rifles, same results. Hard to argue with that.
