Clarify, when I said very slight amount of Hoppes or penetrene, I mean whats left after
patching out before firing. After a rifle has been fired all the lubricant goes up in smoke.

I'm not saying firing a shot in a oily barrel, do that and you'll be shopping for a new barrel.

IMHO most barrels are stuffed from abuse not use.

Well I decided to clean my rifle again after only about 50 shots and I have also chucked asside the advice that tetra gun solvent is fine without the brush.... bloody gunshops bullshit artist! So chucked solvent on the brush and give it a few passes put a patch through to remove any loose stuff and brush in again with more solvent before letting it sit for an hour. Tetra gun is very mild so is no problem. only about 4 patches through before it was pretty clean. One or 2 more till nothing on the patch and then an oil patch through. Still not relly happy with tetra gun solvent. It's sticky and is hard to get off the brush after you finish. I like to have a clean brush to start off with so I am not putting a dirty brush into a dirty barrel.

Hi plowboy,
I clean all my gear with metho or white spirits.
I also run a patch soaked in them after i have cleaned out the powder and then again after the copper solvent. It removes any residues and drys out the barrel.I finish with a light oiled patch pre storage.
All my jags, brushes and rods get cleaned with them as well.

I use tetra gun action blaster. It's really good. Hold the muzzle down and spray into the chamber and cleans the residue out of the barrel. Turns the barrel really cold as it evaporates.

I also store my gear in little jars of white fluid.I have found a quick brush with white fluid soaked brush removes a lot of powder fouling to start the procedure.
