Canberra 1000yd 27th May
Well just back from the Canberra 1000yd match.
As usual Dave Goodridge won LG group agg about 9.5 inches he also had the highest scoring single target just pipping Micheal Easton again (same result as March) keep going Mick you will catch him.
Hans Hoitink won the score agg in LG
HG went to yours truly with a group agg of 8.5 inches and a score agg of 186/200
A great day was had by all and the efforts of Dave Groves and the Canberra members is to be applauded.
How did the Brisvegas shoot go Jeff ???
cheers
Rinso

rinso (dave)
ditto your comments.
another well organised and sociable day at majura.
to be able to complete all shooting and enjoy a superb lunch and then to leave by approx 2pm is appreciated by all travellers.
as rinso has mentioned, thanks to dave groves, clem, hans, michael, jim and vic. (apologies if i have ommitted anyone).
the next scheduled canberra 1000yd is sunday the 29th of july.
hopefully the extra benches will encourage increased competitor numbers in future.
cheers

Well done to the two Daves. It would seem that the blind method could be the way to go still. The end of this year should give us a clearer indication, but i would expect that the score should be better under the spotted system, while the blind method should favour the groups. We will see.
Meanwhile down in Brisvegas, JR took out the HG group agg, Stuart the HG score agg. Jeff was too distraught after his 13.5 inch group agg to relay who did what in the LGs. Conditions were horrible as was most of the State this weekend past.
Hey Rinso, with a 8.5 group agg, we might see you up our way in July?
Tony Z.

Tony Z,
I think the blind method will continue to lead the way and I wouldnt be suprised to see it lead the score as well. I cant see how seeing a bad wind read before your next shot allows for a clear mind. It just creates indecision and uncertainty ... I often comment in Fly that seeing bullet holes is only an advantage when they are landing where you expected them to. When they pop up in the 1 ring you start looking for demons that may not exist, or if they do, are to good for you to spot anyway.
I would like nothing more than to come up in July but its unlikely this year, I am going to make an effort to get to the Madden and Brisbane Fly in November ..
kenny,
I spoke to DG at Canberra he can't make the Bay this year.
cheers
Rinso
I'll bet he was more than distraught, I hope he wasn't driving thats a long way in a car with that going around in your head.Jeff was too distraught after his 13.5 inch group agg

Rinso,
Jr told me there might not be a Fly shoot in November at the Madden. Spoil a good weekend if they dont but dont hold your breath. He might fill everyone in on what he's heard when he gets over his let down in Brisvegas. Still going to shoot the 30br at Canberra so get that light gun sorted. Shot some Littles bullets on the weekend and the beast is showing some promise.
Cheers

steven,
Well thats great finally wangle a way to get there and they go and call the bloody thing off. Hope they have a change of heart.
Did a quick load work up today with Mick Farr on my LG had it shooting .2's in 3 groups ... 155 Lapua sencar(moly) over 46 grns of 2208 so hopefully will be able to shoot it the Bay if I can get enough bullets in time to load up.
Be good to see how the 30Br goes flying the ever friendly Majura skies.
cheers

Bris FLY
Hi Steve, The Fly coming over to the NRAA range could happen ,but only if somebody besides Annie and Stuart want to do the work ..From what i've seen this will not happen and A&S are doing too much now..FLY at the Madden in NOV for sure..JR..Jeff Rogers

not only did rinso shoot his first group of ten shots( scoring 96 or 97) into a hand size group, but just to be different it was a perfect reverse S shape.
he has certainly got the 300win mag heavy gun performing.
i can't wait to see what letter shape he will choose to shoot in future.
cheers

dg,
Mate first target only scored 90 (2nd target 96.3) .. and as you well know I did not choose to shoot a reverse 'S' I just got too much vertical in that one.
Bloody wind, bloody elevation ... bloody lying wind flags
Its enough to drive you batty ...
I did have the best of the conditions .. dg shot 9.5 agg grp in some awful conditions as far as wind goes, dam fine effort.
cheers

Yeah, the elevation was, erm, interesting to say the least. Ruined what would have been a nice 3" group. If there was any wind showing or mirage to speak of in the morning, it would have been helpful.Rinso wrote:dg,

the group aggs and score aggs are worked out by averaging both groups and both scores shot on the day.
because it is a benchrest event, groups are are given precedence or priority over scores.
hope this makes some sense
