Savages work, you wont be disappointed.
CZ are a quality firearm.
If you not sacrificing your left testicle to get it, Sako has the reputation as top of the tree for a factory produced gun. You will be happy

Re: 204 sugestions
That's fair enough mate. They are just 3 brands of gun I have personal experience with that just WORK without anything (maybe a trigger job for the ruger).Drafty wrote:The Tika felt ok but i prefer the feel of timber, it felt plasticy like a toy, the ruger i tried was really tight in the bolt, kept jamming and wasnt smooth like the others and felt to thick in the grip, didnt try a CZ, do they come in a varmint with heavy barrel?kjd wrote:Mate buy a tikka ruger or cz shoot and enjoy. Easy and any of those will work great. Don't get carried away with the custom gun thing unless you want a dedicated safe queen or 6
Neither of the 2 guns i mentioned are customised, bedding will be as far as i go and custom loads.
The Ruger is a fine firearm and I've had a few of them. The roughness you would feel would be for two reasons: 1) Its a controlled round feed action and 2) its a new action.
It would wear in thats for sure.
I prefer function, durability and value and for the money I can't go past my Tikka T3 in .223 it just works, shoots as accurate as any rifle I've owned and even though its got a bit of plastic on it.. it hasn't let me down and my car has more plastic than it

Re: 204 sugestions
Just a bit of a heads up on the CZ - just to confuse you further
1) Doesn't require bedding - had a smith check mine he said no bedding needed.
2) Barrel doesn't need to be floated - same as above, Mine had a small amount of wood to be shaved from the fore-end as it touched when shot
3) Trigger can be lightened off to 2lbs with a small screwdriver, or even lighter if you push the trigger forward (hair trigger)
4) They are excellent value for the money
5) Come with free CZ rings that seem to do the trick nicely.
At the end of the day I reckon you should just get one of the guns (Tikka, Savage, CZ) that have been mentioned by the members here - all obviously shoot well and are well priced, otherwise we wouldn't be recommending them to you.
You will quickly discover that the rifle is not the limiting factor in knocking off Basil Brush,Peter rabbit or Puddy Tat at 350 yards, but your technique - in summary just grab a rifle, develop some handloads and get some practice in!
All the best,
CZ550

Re: 204 sugestions
I am the new owner of a Sako 85, bit the bullet this morning and forked over some cash.
Want to say thanks to all who offered their advice and opinions.
Should have the gun in my hands in a week or 2 once the permit arrives, will post up some pics then.
