Cleaning rods

My bro used my boretech .22 cal stainless centrefire rod in the cz 452 without a bore guide (after i specifically told him not to) and now the cleaning rod is all scratched up. Does this matter? can i still keep using it? Im worried now that its all scratched that foreign particles will embed. Am i just being paranoid? i really don't want to spend another 60 bucks + postage on a new rod

Just polish it with some 400 wet and dry.

I have to get a bore guide i also have a 452 varmint .22lr and its also scored the cleaning rod youve got me thinking now i hope i havent damaged my rifle.

I wouldn't think so, the rod is scratched because the material the barrel is made out of is harder than the rod. Could be wrong - it happened once before

I agree with Bimbo, but have had the same experience and want it to stop. Bore guide from HSS for the 452 was cheaper and better than the sinclair one I had for the hmr

I bought said bore guide + 22 rimfire rod from HSS, works a treat : )

Richta , A few of us in the north just got together and got over a dozen Dewey cleaning rods from BRUNO's in the US .. 44ins long rods cost us Aus $42 ea complete, which is about half of the worst i was quoted recently..JR..Jeff Rogers.. might be worth a look if you have to replace it..

Think I might have met you at Para Range yesterday.

OK, place the handle end of the cleaning rod in a V block of some sort, and attach a variable speed drill to the other end. Use some 1200 wet and dry paper or fine steel wool, and just polish it up. Don't drive it too fast - not necessary.
Works for me.

I emailed BRUNO to get a price on a few things including some of the dewey 44' rods you are talking about and was told in the reply that the maximum length of package to Australia was 42" including package, meaning I would have to buy the 36" rod. Obviously this was not the case for you guys, what gives?

Don't really know , i was told the same when i 1st spoke to Amy at Bruno's ,she said that it would have to be sent UPS because of the size .. Anyhow the parcel got here today(delivered by AusPost) ,it came USPS in a 1.30 meter long box 3 dies and 13 cleaning rods was US$92 post ..44ins Dewey rods worked out at AUS $42.25 ea including 3 phone calls to finally get the package here(about 3 weeks )..JR
