I usually don't post in the reloading forum ( US powders are so different ) , but this is bugging me!
I was reloading some 30 carbine ammo and encounter some Lake City ( 52 ) brass with three holes under the primer. The primers were staked or crimped in place. ( I gave up after trying to decap 2 of them ) Has anyone seen this or know why the 3 holes???
Thanks for any response.

Re: 30 carbine w/ 3 holes under the primer
A form of Berdan priming by the sound of it. The anvil is part of the case instead of being in the primer as found on 'normal' brass.
For this reason the flash holes are not central, but distributed around the edge of the anvil.
If you get the primer out (use a drill bit to just pop the top off the primer) you will see what I mean. These cases are reloadable, but unless you have the specific equipment to do so it is impossible. Most people just put them in the brass bin at the range.

Thanks for the info.
Another site tells me the Chinees commies made some LC 52 ammo during the Korean war! They captured some carbines and copied them.............. even the head stamp on the brass!

FYI, hodgdon powders are mostly repackaged ADI powder, H4895 IS 2206h, Varget IS 2208. I dont mean burn rate is the same or anything, they ARE the same powder.
