AI,
Haven't shot mine since February. Shot OK but not happy with the barrel.
Shot 110gn Bergers in mine so far but never checked ogives worse luck and had 2 batches of bullets and didn't realise.
Measured the ogives on 3 lots of Aussie made projectiles on the weekend.
Littles from Brisbane were up to 9 thou from shortest to longest but haven't shot them seriously yet.
CDCs from Charlie in QLD that were given to me at the nationals were 2 thou. Only have a dozen so wont test them till I get a good day. Very pointy probably 10 ogive.
Karls Keuhns from Sydney were so close it was a waste of time. Shame the're so expensive. About 50% more then the other 2.

What are the Keuhn's worth then?
By sounds the CDC's are the pick of the bunch? What weights they come it? What price are they?
Warrick does not do 30cal? Zero bullets do 30cal?
What barrel are you running? Not happy with the twist or ?????? Your gun is a HV 30BR?
For jokes, have you ran the 110Vmax through it?
The 5000+ barrel life really has drawn me to this round for a practice trigger time rifle. Also cheap to run!
Cheers

AI,
Keuhns are around $630.
CDCs are around $400 but dont quote me on that. I think Charlie will make any weight. They are normally around 118 but he made some for Bob in Mckay around the 125gn mark. The ones I have are on the 1" jacket so you will need a 1 in 17 twist to be sure they stabilize.
Barry Warwick wont make 30s I asked him in Sydney in February.
As far as I know Zero's are only made in 6mm.
My barrel is a Tobler. It's an 18 twist. They are too tight. Normal 308 barrels should run about 0.308 bore and 0.300 in the rifling. Toblers run 0.297 in the rifling. Haven't slugged the bore but was told most are 0.307. Also the bores are not uniform. Of the 3 barrels I fitted all were different in size. I had to make 3 different size bushes to fit the reamer and range rod to align the bores in them. In the end I tried to indicate off the lands and bore but there was no way they were ever going to be as good as any other brand I have fitted. Mine and Kenny's are both 1.250" straights in Heavy Varmint.
I shot Hornady 110 Amaxs to run in the barrel and fireform cases. No problem getting them to 3200fps. Also tried some 125gn Nosler BTs through it to see if they stabilize and had no promlems at 100m.
Kenny was going to test the Keuhn he got of Karl last weekend so he might chime in if he got the chance and let us know how they went. He told me the lot he got had 6 thou difference in ogive where mine had less then 1 thou.

Sounds like a little inconsistant with the Keuhn's?
What sort of accuracy were you getting with the 110Vmax fireforming? 3200fps is pretty impressive to say the least!
I'll be looking at a 17twist barrel, maybe a maddco is I can get it sooner than a US brand. If not, most likely a Lilja!
CDC's at 118 would be a nice weight for the 30BR.. $400 for a 1000 is ok.. thats a ar bit of shooting.
Who else is using one? When are you goingt o take the chance and shoot it at a match for group?

AI,
You wont get a Maddco in your lifetime...I spoke personally with Neville Madden and he told me not to hold my breath. He's been thinking about making them for over 5 years but I dont think the demand is there.
The Amaxs were shooting in the low .3s but at 3200fps you will need a bump die.
Most 30brs are being shot in QLD. There is not enough Hunterclass in the other states. No one seems to want to shoot them in group. You wont find many outside of QLD. I know of 2 others not counting Kenny or I and 1 of those doesn't shoot comp.

I did my first 30 BR in 98, just a couple of weeks after Sully took out the Qld State titles with his. At that time Karls bullets were all that were available. Later on i talked Charlie into doing both a 6 and 8 ogive 115 grainers and both shot well with very little difference at the target in good or rough conditions. Later on Charlie got me to do a 30 BR for Field Rifle and since then he has experimented with various jacket lengths and weight. I have tried his new spire pointed 115 head to head with both his original 115s and i cannot get anything like the group aggs i do with the older pills. Recently i have been using Gary Littles' 115s in 7 ogive and they are the best i have used for some time. Groups are in the region of low ones when the shooter and conditons are going well. I have shot more groups in the ones and zeroes with the 30 BR than what i have with all my 6 PPCs and 6BRs combined. But it only takes one group like in the Madden a few years back where after 3 cards i was on a .18 agg, but with one brain fade i went to a .26 agg and 10 th place in the 100 yd LV. As for aggregates, i stated a while back on this forum that the 30s won't run with the 6 PPCs until such time as there was a change in stock ergonomics. Well i have just machined a stock on my mill recently that is by far and away the most stable and recoil friendly af anything that i have used or fired previously. I shot it on the weekend in LG fly and found it to track and recover like my HG. I will post pics soon.

Nah I never got to test Karl's pills, it was blowin dog's off the chain here Stevo...you mustn't have got my email ?
I am happy with mine.... it shoots better than I can Have had similar results to TZ with some nice little groups but caught by the wind on a couple ruins it.....always
They are truly easy to tune, the worst I think I have shot with it was a big 0.4". It seemed very forgiving to powder weight changes and mine shot well for a full grain of difference. Funny thing was Steve's best load went verticle in my gun....... Mine prefered to come back a bit. Seating depth's showed similar results Same tubes, same chamber.....beats me.
It is not as nice in the wind as a PPC, and I just can't seem to get used to the 'hold off' needed.....just what you get used to but I reckon.
It does kick a bit, even in HV format, free recoiling it will make you sore and it likes to rear up and smack you in the cheek, I found if I treat it like a sporter weight gun... it's not too bad.
It's a crackup when you shoot a group with it and think..."well that's a shocker"...then when you measure it and take the 30 cal off it turns out a mid 0.2"
AI...Steve has already shot his in comp
TZ...Looking forward to the pics...I guess you mean the lop sided forend type of stock ? yes ??

G'Day a.JR,
So if they want to go ahead on the basis of a single thread in any forum and invest in a BR rifle chambered in 30BR for long range, I dont think the top 10 shooters in this country have much to worry about! Especially since you have posted much valuable data on LG/HG stat's at 500m.
Just my 2 cents.....
Cheerio Ned
As far a I can tell, everyone in this thread is talking SR BR with the 30BR. Tony Z has only talked about a new stock design that works well but he has not said what gun/calibre/cartridge it is mounted to this new stock. So, he hasn't actually said that he has used the 30BR beyond 200yds and anyone who goes and builds any BR rifle without proper research into components and cartridge has more money than sense.Tony Z wrote:As for aggregates, i stated a while back on this forum that the 30s won't run with the 6 PPCs until such time as there was a change in stock ergonomics. Ned,
I think the problem lies in JR's vision....he is long sighted and anything under 300yds doesn't count
I do agree that we should all be carefull of what we say...with everything...as the world is watching...well anyone who wants to join the forum anyway
Hell...there could be people watching and waiting to jump on the litigation bandwagon too
Personally I veiw these type of forums as a great learning tool and I am a member of several...from archery to Chev V8's but I always, as you say, investigate peoples claims as it is after all....just somebodies opinion

aJR,
The only mutiple match is the Shooter of the Year unless you have a local agg event at Townsville
I assume the figures you have quoted are actually all Townsville scores, which is fine if you want to claim best LG in Townsville, but to lay claim to the best in country ... its only fair that the gun competes away from home like everyone else has too. You can build a rifle for one range that wont travel and score elsewhere, its also recognised that you do have a home ground advantage shooting on your own range.
As you say
So lets be accurate with our statements .. I don't know EG and he may well have the best LG but he would need to be travelling South to prove that.
I know I am being picky but ... you get that
cheers
Rinso
Interesting statement Jeff I thought all Fly matches consisted of 5 Scoring targets and an optional warmer target .. where is the 4 target match ?Hey you guys seem to be forgetting that the long range game is about aggregrates also ,you know, to win you have to put 4 or 5 targets together
then multiple matchs
The only mutiple match is the Shooter of the Year unless you have a local agg event at Townsville
The best LG won Shooter of the Year with 571.5 and it was Ian Davis. The best HG also Shooter of the Year was YOU with 684.5 as I recall. The best Light gun in the country in '06 was EG at 614 and it was no BR.. The best in Heavy Gun was 727

G'Day All,
well time to put on the flak jacket and man the trenches!
a.JR, it seems that as most of the people putting in their 2 cents were intending to use the 30BR in SR BR matches, it seems a bit silly to hijack the thread and turn it into a LR BR topic just because a very small minority of shooters use a 30BR at long range, particularly since your own stat's comfirm what most of us are thinking, that it is NOT a competitive LR cartridge.
Since, the majority seem to agree (that is SR & LR shooters) that the 30BR is predominately a SR BR round initially designed for score shooting & now more and more in group shooting, so why go on about it?
If this is so important to you and other LR shooters, please start another thread, so that LR 30BR pro's & con's can be discussed and leave this thread to the SR 30BR, if the interest is there for the LR 30BR it will have it's own life, otherwise it will fizzle out as a bad idea which is your whole point isn't it?
