Re: Martini action - what to do?
Well i have a 357Mag Martini that i bought a few years ago but have never taken it to shoot game, I sort of collect them. I have 3 x 222R as well. Use to have a 22 K Hornet but it was stolen.
If you wanted to keep it a 22cal i would look at 5.6x50R as the 222R cases i have are not very good. I bought some reloaded ammo on new bertram brass and lost 30% of the cases with splits through the case mouth. There are lots of people saying the RWS 5.6x50R brass is top notch ont he net. If you want a .357 it would be 357mag or 357MAX. The max cases are harder to get but if you want more out of it its the only way to go, on the other hand if you only wish to shoot 160-200gr projies subsonically there is not point lookign at the 357max. Another option is a rimmed version of the 300 whisper made by shortened 357max cases. I am in the middle off building one at the moment. It will give you supersonic performance simular to a 30-30 out of the cadet action.

Hi Seddo
Again nice collection! I am using bertram brass in my 222Rimmed and haven't had any splits or anything at this stage although they haven't been loaded that many times yet.

Ditto with the Bertrams for me too, havent had any split and the only ones lost Dad dropped in the field... Im no fanatical handloader but the cases I have seem ok to me.

Re: Martini action - what to do?
Hmm Interesting. I almost bought some ammo from Ironbark when I first bought the martini. He even gave me his recipe I think because maybe he was getting out of reloading.
I got a heap of super cases fired and and some still loaded when I bought mine. They are very inconsistent.
Did you organise your own stocks for most your martini's Seddo or did they come pre done? I like the forend on that last 222, not so chunky looks good.

Ryan,
THey are all the way i bought them. Its funny that you like the smaller stock, i bought that off used guns and it doens't fit with my other bull barrel large stock martinis so it will have to go.

Re: Martini action - what to do?
Nope, I have not shot the one i bought earlier this year. The middle rifle is the only one i have shot a fair bit. Last time i went to the range the top one wouldnt chamber the iron bark ammo i took.
I moved house 3 years ago and lost all the load data i had for the middle 1 and havent had time to work them up again. The 357 is nice to shoot with bugger all recoil (even with factory 357mag ammo) and noise compared to the 222R's. I can see me shootgin them a lot more this year as work is under control and the kids are getting older. The last few times i have been to the range the martini's didnt even make it into the car. I have load data and a target that came with the new one, i will find it tonight.

What barrel is on that? Doesn't sound like a sportco 1:16, 55gr ballistic tips are too loooong. Likes the 40's though.

Re: Martini action - what to do?
i was going to rechamber my old 22 rem jet to 222 rimmed . i have some new unfired bertum brass here if somebody wants them cheap . i was told loads .5 of grain less than 222 rem should be fine or start with 222 starting loads & work up from there .
Re: Martini action - what to do?
Nice collection there, Seddo. I too am in the process of having a 300/357MAX made up, might be able to compare notes in the future. That last photo is a beautifully styled rifle.
On the 2nd last, is the gap between fore-end and action because it's a take-down?

Re: Martini action - what to do?
I'm constantly amazed at how accurate these little rifles are ... when they'll out shoot many more modern rifles. Mine's in 222Rimmed Improved ... 50gr Highland pill, 2gr below 222Rem starting load using AR2207 in neck sized cases ... 0.7MOA with a high magnification scope. Kind of makes it pointless doing load development.Seddo wrote:THis is the reloading data i got with my last martini.
