F class (Open and Standard) at Cessnock Prize shoot

Post by RDavies »

Cessnocks annual prize shoot will be open for F class Open and F class standard on May 2.
Ranges will be 2 x500yds and 1x 600yds.
Suitable range for any Fly guns, light BR guns (10KG), or just use a 308 for standard class. There seems to be a lot of flyshooters on this site ,maybe you might like to come and try F class (belly benchrest ).

Malcolm if you make your way to Cessnock from Sydney so up the F3, take the cessnock exit, through freemans waterhole etc and make your way to cessnock. When you get to cessnock you turn left on vincent street and follow this road. You'll pass the rugby field on the left and then cross the railway lines. Keep going straight and the range is just after racecourse road, can't miss it.

If you do a search in google maps for racecourse road then change to satellite view you'll clearly see the range just to the south.

Don't think I'll make it bubs is due on the 3rd :D unless it comes early who know's

OK-- I'm getting pretty excited about this shoot. I've just looked up the rules, so I'm sure my Fly rifle will be OK-- but how many rounds will I need? Do I bring along an old blanket to lie on? What works best for a front rest---- my Sinclair benchrest or an old rolled sandbag?
Cessnock is only 150 klms from my place, which is way closer than Canberra or Batemans Bay.

Malcolm use your normal front rest and rear bag, if you don't want to get dirty will need something to belly flop onto. Someone will prob lend you a on the day. You'll need 2 sighters and 10 scorers for each round so 35 rounds should see you out by the looks.

Well the shoot has been run and won.
Mat Paroz won F class standard with John peters 2nd.
In Open class, Lewis Reynolds (6 Dasher)had his 1st aggregate win (and 600 yd win) followed by Malcom Ambrose (6.5/284)and Gotti Nyfeneger (6BR). It was Malcoms 1st time at F class, but he used his Fly shoot and 1000yd experience to earn a very convincing win in the 2nd 500yd range.
Come on fly shooters, have a go at F class, there are plenty of F class shoots each weekend from 300-900yds in most districts around the country. Usualy 24 shots for club shoots and 36 shots and up for bigger shoots.

Sunday was my first attempt at something other than "benchrest" I just want to say a big heartfelt thanks to Rod. He took me under his wing and taught me everything on the day about "belly floppin' "
I had a ball. I didn't realise how many times a year these belly boys do it at "Fly " distances.
I'm actually surprised more Fly shooters didn't attend.
Anyway for the chance to have a shoot a 500 and 600 yards it was well worth the drive.
Again, a big thanks to Rod, and all the fellas at Cessnock
Cheers Malcolm
