Short report - LEETON FLY + PICS

Post by chappo555 »

Just returned from the Leeton Fly and what a great shoot. 29 Shooters competed in what was described as "mild" to "devastating" wind (depending on how you shot)

The event was really well run and smooth as silk. Thanks to Festa for the range duties, Shane for scoring and Tuck for target duties as well as the catering crew who provided some of the nicest steak sangers Ive had in a long time.

Ken Perrin was the overall winner. Ken was on fire all day, well done mate.

Anyway see the link below for some photos.

Anyone who hasnt shot at Leeton or hasnt had a go at fly shooting should have a crack at it. Great fun, great and friendly atmosphere and just a good way to spend a day.

Cheers

Beaut day it was, catering was fantastic with egg and bacon rolls for beacky, snags and steak sangers for lunch, tea and coffee, cold drinks and all the new amenities and extra benches it was a great day. Thanks again to Clancy and the fella's for running the whole event and I hope to be there in July.

Yes, another great Leeton Fly shoot. Everyone had a ball, as always. A special thanks to Chris Nocente for the accommodation, and thanks to Chris and Shane Clancy for the running of the shoot, and yet again a sterling effort from Shane Tucker on the Saturday, came and ran the targets like a pro, didn't shoot just came to help, fantastic. Can't wait for the next one guys, a credit to the Narrandera Leeton club.
cheers

well I didnt have as much fun as i thought...
my fault though

See havent been to Leeton for a year and a half or soo and have done half a dozen 500m fly shoots since then so thought I might have been competetive at 300m

WRONG :(

my best target was my last (so at least it was a learning experience)

I'm starting to pick wind changes, by no means an expert but starting to pull it together instead of just blasting away.

I learned my bench technique needs work

At 300 you can clearly see the fly, you can adjust your windage to be pointing straight on so you only have to hold a couple of inches either side if the wind changes whereas at 500m the drift is more pronounced and the target picture less clear (sometimes your holding on the edge of the scoring rings), so this was enough to see the dot pushed off the fly with different cheek pressure on the stock or different shoulder pressure on the butt could push the dot right out of the 10 ring, so miss the wind a little, and your going to hit the nine ring, then pressure the butt and all of a sudden that shot is your flier out in the six or seven ring.

Take that out to 500 and some of those shots that are a one or dont score maybe would have been a 4 because i didnt pick the wind well enough and then bench technique flies them right out there.

It was well worth going. I learned something, yet again.

And thanks to the organisers for putting on a good day and showing hospitality too

No Drama's Guys,
It was great to catch up with everyone and will see you all at the next one and hopefully we get a few new shotters wanting to give it a go.

Cheers
