Got the Charmate Medium for $67.99. How did I do that? Joined their Customer Club before I went over to have a look at the unit, and they e-mailed me a $20 discount coupon, valid in-store only for total purchase >$100.
So I just added a couple of $11.99 bags of wood chips [Apple and Mesquite] to get over the threshold! Already had lump Charcoal, and Heat Beads, on hand; so didn't need any more of those.
Have just about got the unit put together - a fair bit of de-burring required on the edges of pressed parts, but that's to be expected, at the price. And the latches that hold the top section down to the firebox are way flimsy, so a better set of adjustable Toggle Latches will be going on.
Just recently tried a 'Pastrami from Corned Beef' recipe [without smoking], and was really impressed with how that turned out - can post a 'how it were done', if anyone's interested.
Next time, it'll get smoked as well.
Edit: Ran its 'burn-in' first firing yesty. Started out with Heat Beads lit in a 'chimney starter' I had on hand, then topped up with charcoal lumps later on.
