Botswana and surrounds

Well after 35 hours since we left home we arrived at Kisane at 1:30pm. Left the newly upgrade air terminal with a guide taking us to Chobe Game Lodge in Chobe National Park. She says get your camera ready, I,m just wanying to get to the accommodation and have a shower. About 5 min from the terminal see first elephants, then red impala off in the distance, kudu as well. Suddenly wide awake and check in. Host says we are late for the river cruise, get freshened up and they will run us out in a boat to join the cruise.
Elephants swimming, hippos, nile crocs, cape buffalo, kudu, red impala and baboons all pretty quite as we glide past in an electric punt type thing.
Here less than 5 hours. This trip is going to be awesome.
No animals will be harmed, purely a holiday and photos. 3 days at Chobe River on a house boat then 14 days on small groip safari through Zimbabwe, mainly Botswana and Namibia.
This trip has been a work in progress for about 4 years. Wife has always wanted to go, so we set a date for after the boys finished school, opened a separate bank account and started putting a bit aside each pay. Now we are briefly living the dream.
Raven, wish I could get someone else to pay for it.
Trevort, will post more phone pics when I can.
Reading the names on the departure board makes you realise its actually happening and your in for something special.
Bruce

Wow! Pretty sure thats where we stayed in 2005. On the river about a 5 min punt ride to the wet lands. Amazing area for game animals birds and the people were fantastic.
Loved Chobe while the operators we had were a little wild the game in the area and the food at the accomodation was top notch!
You going to the falls in Zimbabwe?
Enjoy Bruce other than our own Africa is my favourite continent. We were lucky to go before kids....will be doing like you when the kids are older for another trip. Stay safe and have a ball!

Bruce, very jealous. that's the only sort of African safari that would interest me.
keep the pictures coming.
Maybe I could do that for my 60th (I wont ask the price so I can keep dreaming)
and the prairie dog guess would appear to be wrong then!

Chobe River at Chobe National Park.
A cold beer and a few visitors passing by.
Chobe NP is over 10,000km sq with about 120,000 elephant. It is now dry season and only water in this area is at the river.

Is that last photo looking out your bedroom window ? Be careful if you need a leak in the middle of the night, you know the story of how the crocodile helped the elephant get a long trunk.

Great pics Bruce but I would have the first barrel hot by now and I would be saving the second barrel for Cecils Cousin and Aunt and Grandfather.

Don't even need to leave the verandah at Victoria Falls to see the game. Not a good trophy though.

.
Chobe has army permanenyly stationed at bush camps to get the poachers. Heli patrols also. Botswana is trying to build a reputation for game viewing and conservation, sort of their "Great Barrier Reef" as a tourism attraction.
