Don't buy a Colorado
If you wanna do any sort of off road driving.
First time I took it to the farm I decided to check the bullbar performance on a sucker tree. Ripped out the sensor controlling the abs.
Since the Easter trip well every time it rained I got a warning light that there was water in the fuel. Got it checked out. This was hanging off
So the mechanic pulls it right off. As it had broken water off the road was hitting the sensor. Do I have to leave it with you? I asked.
Nah we'll put a new one on next service
But I hadn't done any bush bashing, stayed on the rough tracks so I wanted to know how it broke off. He gets down and shines his torch under the chassis showing me were it broke off from. And about three inches away he points out another one.
"If it was that one your car would still be sitting where it happened. That one controls the pressure in the fuel system.
I reckon that is really fucked that a 4wd ute has so many sensitive things unprotected on the underside. Should come with a warning not to driven of road, or in roadworks were stones can get thrown up.
I've asked if it can be protected and he is investigating what he described as a 'bash plate'
Any other ideas? Constructive ones please (especially you Camel)

Re: Don't buy a Colorado
I've done river crossings, nearly been bogged in mud, bottomed out the front end, rear ended, keyed and my Rado is still going just fine.
A bash plate would be a good idea mate.

Colorados are soft offroad. Most the newer utility 4wds are.

Re: Don't buy a Colorado
Put nearly 80 thousand k's on my colorado, creek crossings, beaches, spotlighting bashing it around on rocks, cowshit, mud, dust, sand, run over a few suicidal kangaroos. Never had a drama.
Re: Don't buy a Colorado
Some decent bash plates will help Trev. Google bushskinz or arb or even iron man, they are just a few which will offer some under body support for your vehicle. It's important. Even if you run over a roo, it could get tangled up in all that gear under there. We put heavy duty plates under every new vehicle we put on the farm, as country around Goulburn, Bourke, Wilcannia and hay are not kind to vehicles.

Re: Don't buy a Colorado
I brought TJM underbody protection for me Triton as soon as I got!
Would not drive it without it!
Goes all the way to the transmission cross member.
Had a bad experience with old ute, bent sump! Have never let that bloke drive me ute again!
It surprising how many sticks hit the underbody protection when I'm spotlighting in paddocks.
As for new and old, two VERY different vehicle!
They cannot and should not be compared! Apple's and orange's!
My UB protection was $450.00 Trev, good investment!
Ha ha ha ha, investment!

Re: Don't buy a Colorado
Glenn. I assume you have the MN Triton. I know the ML Triton had the four wheel drive actuator hidden behind a tyre sort of, first thing to get knocked out on a reasonable track, so bash plates were extremely necessary for that model, I assume the mn is similar. I think under body protection is vital anyways.

Re: Don't buy a Colorado
Beyond the comments already made on Colorado's have any of the Colorado owners here had anything to do with the "7"?
I'll be looking for a new company vehicle in a few months and thinking I can slip a Colorado LTZ 7 past management. Can't go the ute, and I prefer the 'wagonesque' interior.
What did you break (Trevorts already provided info)?
What extra's are must haves?
What's to watch for?
Yadda Yadda....
As for Colorado's being a real 4x4, mine will see 98% sealed road us. Just want something that can get into the bush for the odd camping/shooting etc...
