Check your policy!

A bloke I work with ended up with bad Diesel that stuffed his injector pump!

His insurance were not going to cover it and it was only under a lot of duress they did!

When he renewed he checked the policy and there is a clause in there now that states dose now cover bad fuel!

They only like taking your money!

Problem solved.

They wont cover stupidity. Bad fuel is also a grey area, if you can identify that fuel caused it and have receipts ... your on stronger ground.

What is bad Diesel Fuel (not trying to be a smart ass) but I hear the term used and I'm buggered if I know what is Bad Diesel - is it diesel with water in it or something else?

I consider diesel with water or particulates in suspension as bad fuel.

Thanks for that mate, I figured it might be something to do with water, I guess the particulates etc are from crappy storage tanks at servos?

Well my diesels going through 2 filters so she's been cleaned fairly well

I've got to be honest and say I think the next 4wd will probably be a petrol version, I'm over having to mod these new 4wds so they can be reliable (why the hell aren't they building em right in the first place is beyond me) really bloody annoying and darn expensive!

Doesn't help with the donkeys put the wrong fuel in the wrong tank...at the service station!!

Happened to the olds out west, they were lucky the old patrol got a tank of diesel instead of ULP by virtue they put diesel in the ULP tanks at the station! Somehow they were able to drive it to Mount Isa where it was checked, the Nissan blokes struggled to work it out. Dad realised that the crank was making a weird noise, turned out it was unburnt diesel seeping down past the rings and filled up the sump.

They made a claim to the station in writing and got there money back thankfully. The forester that filled up before them was in more trouble...wouldn't even start.

Is there a better/cleaner diesel or are they all the same?

Unfortunately I am not in the position to be choosy, I just get the filter replaced a lot and live with the fact the warning light is on within 1000kms of the last service.

There is a lot to be said for the original 1HZ engine

Because I have zero interest in understanding any of the mechanical stuff you are discussing here coupled with the fact that I want my ute to last my logic went like this..
Kickin is interested in this stuff, Kickin likes his ute, Kickin uses BP

Simple

While saying I only use BP, I will not drive past another brand if the fuel gauge is less than 1/4, looking for a BP. The last bit of fuel in your tank has more nasties in it than ANY servo will give you.

We just drove from Darwin to Wodonga, via Bendigo and Ballarat just because we wanted to.

I have a 2004 Nissan Patrol GUIII with the so called "Grenade motor" the 3.0ltr turbo.
Towing the camper trailer filled with gear, and the Patrol full of Dog and fridge in the back, we avaeraged 6.01l/100klm.

I was not choosy where I filled up the Patrol and 6 jerry cans -Katherine, Alice Springs, Port Augusta - (we were able to travel 1400klm before requireing fuel). To be really honest i didnt find a particular difference in any of the fuel brands.

I do not run any extra fuel filters, I just replace all filters in my normal 5000klm servicing regieme.

Lucky? I dont know, but it works for me.
