In its formative years I tried holding the pedal to the metal and locking the steering wheel to spin it round and round at the farm on at least one occasion.
Apparently 4wds don't like that much and that could have started the damage. So breather tubes got off the suspect list.

Well, it has a replacement diff and I don't own a farm block anymore so all is good
