Diesel - Which do you use which do you refuse to?

Post by kjd »

Just wondering what fuel you guys are running in your new common rail turbo diesels these days?

Is there a better/cleaner diesel or are they all the same?

Cheers,
Keith.

I do not buy discount diesel. This rules out shell/Coles and woolies/caltex.

BP or standalone caltex and shell are the only ones that go in my tank.

Never Shell. Otherwise happy to use them, even 'truck diesel'. I keep receipts as proof of where I filled up, just incase of contamination that causes issues.
Cheers...

I've tried them all, can't say I've noticed any real diff between the brands, we have shell and BP in town, I usually go to the Shell as its closer and is the busiest.

I put a Aftermarket Filter (Donaldson) on my BT-50 so the diesel is filtered twice and the filter has a water separator window thingy to check for water etc.

My brother in-law has worked as a chemical engineer in the refining industry for many years and he maintains that BP provides the cleanest diesel available, he has never worked for British Petroleum but has on occasion done various testing and analysing of their products.

Therefore I purchase nothing apart from BP diesel unless in a real bind.

I always go to the same place if i'm filling up in town, it happens to be a Caltex discount joint,

Why...

it's the newest servo in town with nice new clean tanks in the ground, most problems with diesel engines I have heard of come from the algae/bacteria crud the sort of infects a system , so less chance of that..........maybe. Yep I also keep every receipt , if you get dodgy fuel it's easier to prove with shopping at the one place and a continuous run of receipts, cause its the standard cry as soon as you attempt a warranty clain......sorry, you got a bad lot of fuel, bad luck that, see ya.

I also use Chemtech Diesel Power addative in every tank , not a lot just the minimum to ensure that the bugs are neutralised, A good mate suggested that to me when I first got a diesel, when I took it to my mechanic for its first service he said it was the simplest cheapest and one of the best favours you could do for you engine. I dunno , I'm not a mechanic, but I haven't had any fuel issues either so....

That is a good reason for me to not use that servo for 6 months. When the tanks are put in they are full of water which us pumped out at commissioning and replaced with fuel.

Me to, only running older diesels but the last made it just past 380k before dropping the top off a piston. This one is about to go past 400k, apart from filters the fuel system on nether has been touched

WTF! I've never seen a tank filled with water during installation.

What sort of tanks are these?
