Fuckit forgot the pic.
Silver is already drilled - but the red one may be a problem.

I "think" just "normal" steel - not hardened. Image

The only time I've drilled anything like that we used a magnetic clamp drill, and plenty of time.

Although I guess that doesn't help much.

I could always (badly) weld a couple lugs onto it - but want to drill it for D shackles.

Oxy or plasma if you only need rough holes

Sharp drill bit in a quality cordless drill will see you sorted.

Ditto.
Or slow speed lots of cutting fluid.
Good luck.

Well painted mild steel - a gong in the making.

If you are not to fussy about the dimensions of the hole and have some power in your welder,up the amperage and bore a hole with your welder.

If it is just mild steel, a sharp drill and some cutting fluid. Correct speed if you can control it. At 30mm keeping the drill straight so you do not snap it will be a consideration. Mild steel is soft and very easy to drill. Mag base would be great.

You shouldn't be fucking around with that shit anyway, you should go and cut a couple of chunks out of a tank or some such other beasty, or is that what they are making them out of these days ?
