So how do I fix this ?
It's stainless,a real nice blade,but the handle seems to have broken off.
Mig,tig,silver solder?
Mild steel or stainless?
I can see it with a nice curved guard and a rosewood handle,maybe a stainless shaped pommel or a rope hole.
Ideas from the brains trust.

Some of those hidden tang knives only had very short bits up the handle, wouldnt surprise me if that is as long as it was originally, it probably had a plastic handle. Maybe

Me I would try lengthening the tang, I only have access to an arc welder so that is what I would use to add a bit onto it, then do a handle with the tang hidden inside so it hides any discrepancies in the join.

Depends on how good you want the finished product to look I spose, is it worth anything either monetary or sentimentally ?

im not attatched to it as such,i just dont like to see good kit go to scrap.
i love blades almost as much as firearms,i dont like to see any waisted.
i didnt think welding steel to stainless would take too good.
maybe im wrong....
its as thick as that saw blade i got from you mark.
im sure i can fix it,but im a little unsure how or what to use.

Find some stainless and weld her up. Any scrap mobs up your way?

It would have had a moulded plastic handle and that's as far in as the blade goes. I would tig/mig on a bit of threaded rod/bolt and then make a handle with a hole down the centre and then a nut threaded on the end to hold it together or even just a section of threaded rod without going all the way through and epoxy the handle on would give it plenty to hold on to. Welding steel and stainless together is fine they will hold just won't be as corrosion resistant

James I was gunna suggest some threaded rod, similar to what you suggest, but thought I might get in trouble for being too rough.

Get a handful of devcon putty and hold the blade until it cures. Instant form fitted handle

How rough is that?

I noticed a phone book in the photo. Do they still make them, I thought they died in the late 90's

He does live in QLD, so that is probably modern for them.

You might be able to put a hook on the end of some thread bar to go thru the hole in the end of the blade instead of welding to it, depending on the steel it could crack when welded.

I got the handle welded on,I still need to shape it and get the right length.
I've got plenty of rosewood here so might use that for material.

i think itll be ok,i belted the handle [both sides] against the brick wall and it didnt come off....
