Well the action is finally on a plane so the 19 Calhoon hornet will be re assembled, should be just a simple screw in as the barrel is off this action, now to see if old Bayden will put it together for me

Wow, John, I am reeealy amazed (not) at how you can stick with your convictions after all the temptations out there.

Just as I was gunna send you a message you popped up, can you send me info on where and how and how much that draw down die you got made for the 19 cal ? Still thinking of drawing some 6.5mm to 257.

I like to think of myself along the lines of Churchill, Paton etc its just inner strength mate

My die is is Corbin I think, I better check  Mate even going from 20 cal to 19 in the rock chucker press takes some big force, I get what your thinking having the bigger range of bullets. What weight are you looking at?

Yeah I reckoned there would be plenty of force required, .204 down to .198, that's where your numbers are isn't it ?? You are coming down 6 thou and I would be coming down 7 thou. I was looking at trying out some of the more popular target weights, something from 120 up to 140 in the 6.5mm, I should nearly be able to get the same velocity as the 6.5x47 Lap using my 25 Camel case, its 1.5mm longer in the body, same everything else, and also the 257 cal would give me better BC for the same weight bullets. Or that's what I reckon with my very limited knowledge on that stuff. There aren't that many readily available 257 target quality projectiles around.
I suppose the extra length of the projectiles would make for a harder draw down force required. I just picked up a near new Rock Chucker press.

Jesus Mary & Joseph did you get pickled on the black froth with Trev? You started out sticking to 75-87 gr correct? now your taking 120 -140s 6.5s necked down. Don't forget you will trying to shift a lot more copper & lead than the 32gr 20 cal. Have a bex and a nice lie down son

Fuck me you are a boring prick at time Trev, why do things the simple easy way, just because everyone else does, the world would be a very sad place if everyone did the easy things. Sheesh, but if you insist, the bullet I pick is a 123gn Amax swaged down to 25 calibre, there are you happy.

Nope, I am going to use my 25 Camel hunting rifle with 100gn bullets, the lighter stuff is for the 250 Myra, found out on sunday that the 87s are way too slow, only doing 23 and a bit hundred fps, got the 75s doing 2770, that is right in the ball park of where I wanted them. I do realise there is a lot of copper and lead to swage down, but hey, if no one ever tried different things, we would all still be shooting black powder buffalo cannons.
Other thought is to try and find someone who makes comp grade 25 cal bullets, but they are few and far between, maybe the larger Nosler BTs will go alright, Berger make a 115 gn vld and Tony Z mentioned someone else who I cant remember when I was talking to him the other day.

Easiest to get Lee to make you sizing dies in 0.002" step down. Their stuff for lead works with jacketed as well.
Cheers...

They must be a bunch of pussies if they are quaking in their boots about my abilities to compete against them, I did have 5 shots at the 1000 target a couple of years ago when I went to Narromine, they all hit the target, its bloody easy.

Its not about being winning Trev, but more about participation, I know that realistically I don't have the capabilities, equipment, time nor practice to give anyone a scare, getting in and having a crack and who knows it just might work alright, and alright is what Im after. :D

Camel hit it on the head, it's all about having fun. Everyone can't win but everyone can have fun. Build what you want and enjoy!

Camel,

I agree, build it and have some fun. My first BR rifle was a 270, TZ and JR nearly fell off their chairs laughing. Got to the point though that I beat JR in a count back for score 3 times at 1000yds, so that slowed the laughter to just a few giggles. Still got the barrel, 4000 rounds through it and it still shoots 8", 10 shot groups.

You can also get SMK in 100gr, as well as the Bergers. The SMK's should be a reasonable pill.

Go the 25 Camel. See you at Narromine soon, don't forget my emery paper.

Thanks Jeff, I will be definitely bringing a 25 Camel to Narromine next year, Ill be contacting my gunsmith in a few days about sourcing a good quality 25 cal barrel, he already has my Omark action, so Ill just have to save a few bikkies for a decent scope and a stock for it.

I think that I would have laughed at the thought of a 270W benchrest rifle, but really, the cartridge doesn't make that much difference in the over all scheme of things, good components and a good driver should see good results.

How did any of this work out?

You could always turn a bit off the necks and let the barrel swage the bullets down for you. Up side is with the increased pressure you might even save a bit on powder!
