A really interesting thread to read, including building an action from a cylindrical block of steel. Some quite fascinating discussion on the technical aspects of the 6mm PPC cartridge and chambering as well, and some info on .220 Swift-based wildcats I have never heard of before (.25 Dart and 6mm Wasp).

I thought you might like this one Kicken. I reckon the step-by-step documentation of the machining work is amazing, and the extra technical discussion topics (like the digestion onto Stolle) are just cream on top.kickinback wrote:Interesting how they talk about "the warehouse"

Re: Building a benchrest rifle
Just finished reading the full 36 pages - this would have to be the most interesting and informative shooting related thread I have ever read. Not only does it detail (and I mean detail) the steps in machining and action and building a rifle from scratch, but it also covers building a benchrest and range, the development of target scopes over the years, how to set up for and hand stage BR quality projectiles, how the famous Jewell trigger was developed, how it works, and how it was (in the writers opinion) deposed as the best BR trigger available, various historical aspects of bench rest, and a host of other stuff.
I reckon there is something in here for everyone, from someone who has just started reloading to someone who has been loading and gunsmithing for years.
As Molly Meldrum would say - do yourself a favour and check it out!

No chance of me going to the dark side Mark. Not enough time, patience, attention to detail, technique or finances for Benchrest.Camel wrote:Marcus, I was starting to worry about you looking into the dark mystic art of benchrest shooting with the last few articles you have posted up links for, now a I am definitely worried when you start quoting Molly bloody Meldrum
