best caliber for deer in Vic and pigs ?

Hi all looking to put another barrel on my tikka switch barrel have a 22Br and looking for low recoil deer round im in Vic will use it on pigs and goats in qld as well thanks.

I hate to say it, but the good old 308Win cartridge is very hard to beat for just about all critter in Australia, hit em in the right place with the right projectile and they will fall over deaded.

Agree with the 308 win suggestion, only I'd run 150gn hornady SST as the one load for deer and pigs.

Be different. Could go .260 or 07-08 or if recoil isn't really a big deal maybe look at .338 Fed!

Sambar. .277 with 130 grain is minimum allowed.
308'Win makes good sense .

Yep yet everybody so far other than the first half of Biggies post has offered a chambering
I guess Tackle could be excluded as he omly offered a weight range but he was agreeing with Camels 308 win choice

Seeing as its deer and in Vic you def need a 358 winchester magnum....nah 416 rigby hate to be under gunned

Based on the bolt head he already has with his McTikka. We don't just provide calibre we also offer chamberings. Its all part of the service.

Thanks everyone I never shot a deer in Vic manly hunt around Texas qld so mabey could go a 6.5 would like it to feed out of my magazine. What are my options 6.5x47 260rem 6.5x284 not sure if it would feed out a 308 magazine?

Never had 1 but a few people like the 6.5x55. Depends how main stream you want to go.
There is a few that you will have trouble getting brass

What deer species? Different minimum calibres for different species.
