My 7mm Lap Mag wildcat is very close to being finished so as a birthday present i decided to supersize the 30cal. So your thinking how can i supersize a 30cal, yes there are other cool versions out there but i couldn't find on a cheytac case so i jumped at that. The print is a hybrid that shares specs with my 375 snipetac and 300wm reamer. I'm not sure i got the throat right and i may have to neck turn but i wont know either for sure until its done.
The idea came to me in the first week of november, during the week i was reading how there are not many big cannons in fly shooting any more and then on the weekend i shot in typical little river winds and it got me thinking how about i build a fire breather for those conditions. The result of all my thought is the reamer above. Will it be accurate enough for a fly shoot? Not in good conditions but thats not why im building it. My 6mmBR was moving around by 6-8moa at 500m in the winds that were in your face and fish tailing. if this round is able to drop the wind drift then it will do a lot better than my 6mm BR or the 6mm Dasher that won the match.
Specs on the build are still up in the air but that's fine as it will take 6-9 months to get this thing built. So far i have ordered a 30" by 1.450" cylinder barrel so im going to need a block for it. Stock wise im thinking McMillan 50 HBR because i have another one and it will work on the rest. The action will have to be a stiller Tac408 single shot but if i build the rifle the right way i will be able to stick any rifle in the stock as long as it has a 1.45" barrel so its not the end of the world if the barrel burn out, i can always go back to a super heavy barrelled 6mm Dasher like the rest of the pack.
Looks good I thought a squarer shoulder but there must be a reason why not, it sounds a better than a Camel.
Good luck with the project it would be cool to have a cartridge of your own design.
Cheers
Gary
A while ago I was looking at the 30 Warbird which is a Lazzorini cartridge, but ended up just building a 300WM. But it still in the back of my mind just like with a lot of these the brass is the killer part.
Will make a lot of noise that's for sure. Prob upset everybody each side of you with the rude muzzle blast to hahaha. Will it beat a dasher at 500 fly maybe but highly unlikely. I'll be keen to see it in action Scott. A guy a few years ago had a 30 lazzaroni warbird not so successful. Have seen a few others 300 rum ultra 300 yogi none ever come close nocking of Br or dasher.
But we can be proven wrong this fire breathing dragon Might re ignite the big boomer bug.

3500-3600 is doable, a mate gets more than that with his 338 snipetac and there isn't much difference in capacity.

I don't think it would knock a dasher BUT the lower amount of wind drift will give me a better score WHEN (not if) I miss the change. I lost a 6mmBR by about 6moa when I missed a wind call, if I can drop that down 1-2moa than I'm still on the target!
Can't wait to see it in action. A mate had a 375 Chey Tac in the pipe work years ago. But ya have to be careful most fly ranges are limited to 8mm. I wanna see ya shoot a 50BMG at a fly target mate. That I would love to see.

My 375 snipetac isn't heavy enough to shoot 40 rounds and feel happy about it, 5-10 is fine but not 40.
It would have to be a heavy bmg to shoot it without a brake as well.

do they have the 3500ftlb limit like most of the ranges around here ?
Spose that means I cant bring the 17/222 and 20/222 down this weekend ?
Scott, good to see you are getting it off the ground, especially getting your own reamer, I should look into that one day. Is this the one you were talking about making a while back ??
