Hi guys,

I'm after suggestions on what to build on a Winchester Mod 70 action with a 223 bolt face. I know the first question will be what am i going to use it for but i have no idea.

On a 223 bolt face i already have 222, 223, 30-221.

The calibres that popped into my head are:
204 Ruger - i have a set of dies and some factory ammo (sold the barrel i use to have)
7mmTCU - i have dies
17 Rem - i have always wanted a 17 but i have a 17PPC barrel coming.

So what is everyone thinking? Yes i know its a long action but i can live with the little bit of extra weight.

some sort of 20 cal

So why not a 5/5.6x50

Has it been done before ?

Yeah, Im with the big lunatic, something on the x50 case would be cool, dunno about calibre though, 25x50 AI something ??

Just open the boltface to something useful.

Extractors on the Model 70 are dead simple to buy and you can get a magnum boltface onto that bolt.

Convert it to a DBM setup and you are sorted.

If you don't want to change the boltface, I'd go a 204Ruger or Tac20, I reckon.

Unless you fancy a 300 BO for fun?

6x45, 6x47 or 6/204.

Though IMO best suggestion is Adamjp's open up the bolt face and build anything that interests you.

I think your pretty close jeff, i cant be stuffed opening up the bolt face. I have a action with a 308 bolt face in the safe and i have magnums covered.

There is no performance difference between the 30-221 and 300BO, its just a slightly difference case.

The bigger question here is why is a Stiller importer building ANYTHING on a Mod 70 action?!

That's the question i keep asking myself.

It depends on how you look at it, i have been importing Stiller's for about 4 years but i have been shooting winchester's for a bit over 25 years. I'm always going to have a soft spot for them no matter what happens.

1: 5.56x50Mag, ask Pete about his, I've seen it, impressive. I think he still has the reamer, if not Luke will have it
2: 6mm/204, easy for Luke to do

I think either a 204 or a 6x47 for something different.
