Slugging a .22 barrel?
Just wondering if anyone can give any advice about slugging a .22LR barrel? I have no idea, I'm assuming I pull a projectile from a case and just push it down the barrel until l feel a difference in tension? Do I lube the barrel? Any info would be appreciated.

Pull projectile, give it a squirt of lube and then drop it into the chamber and using your cleaning rod push it through till it drops out the muzzle.
If its real tight, bash the shit out of your rod with a 4lb hammer, Im sure it wont hurt anything.

Years ago l was shooting Winny "Z's" and one stopped in the barrel about 6" from the muzzle, l pushed it out with a rod and that's when l realized it had a loose spot. I'm ready to get the barrel chopped so thanks forr the help Camel.

Is this the Brno Mod 2, have heard that there were a batch that had that problem, but the still shot pretty well. My old Mod 2 had the barrel docked to 18 inches, shot even better after than before.

If it got stuck in the barrel, wouldn't there be a very nasty tight spot before that loose spot? Just asking, not being silly.Knackers wrote:Years ago l was shooting Winny "Z's" and one stopped in the barrel about 6" from the muzzle, l pushed it out with a rod and that's when l realized it had a loose spot. Re: Slugging a .22 barrel?
Not silly at all Raven, I asked the question to my work mate before I did anything. I was shooting at targets about 20 mtrs away, and "Z's" are so slow that you can see the bullet in flight. I noticed that I didn't see this particular shot and it sounded different, so I looked up the barrel and bingo, there's you trouble. My mate said to just push it out with a rod and explained that with a some CZ's their barrels had loose spots near the end of the barrel and the "Z's" have such little amount of gas's produced that when it's fired, as the bullet gets to the loose spot the gas's go around the bullet and escape in front of the bullet and it runs out of steam and stops where the barrel tightens up again. Hence find the loose spot, come back till it's tight and chop it off there.

Ok that makes more sense.Knackers wrote:Not silly at all Raven, I asked the question to my work mate before I did anything. I'm a little surprised even a slow round (guessing about 650ft/sec) would stop within the length of a barrel, but then it's not quite at that speed until it leaves the muzzle.
You learn something every day.

Re: Slugging a .22 barrel?
i had the same problem with one of my marlin .22's.
this little bugger had a tight spot that was throwing the pill all over the place.
before i did the job you couldnt hit a can at 20 yrds with it,bloody tack driver out to 75 now.
i took it back about 6" from the muzzle and re-crowned it.
damn good window gun now.
also replaced the plastic mag and housing with metal ones.
old post i know...but..
ps:i did the slug job on it aswell, before anything else.
i pushed it threw a couple of times and then a couple more to find the spot for measuring.
