Chasing some info and opinions, I have just acquired a new CZ452, it will wear a vortex 4-16x40, I have heard that the factory trigger can be hit and miss as can stock bedding etc.

My intention is to run 200-300 rounds thru it and cycle the bolt another 4/500 times just to work it all in. Ill acquire a few different boxes of ammo to find out what my particular rifle likes to eat.

Then I have read about a yo dave trigger kit cheap and easy to install!(it's never going to be a bench rest gun) if It needs bedding do I glass bed or do I do pillars and bedding?

So my questions yo dave trigger or not?
Bedding recommendations?
Hunting type ammo that has worked for you?
Barrel clean prior to shooting? Yes / no techniques

Any other tips for making it just all round nicer?

you MUST clean a new rifle bore prior to use as its got packing grease in it to prevent rust.

I bought a second hand CZ that the owner said was near new and had only fired a box.
Since he was on a forum I assumed he knew about guns.

Sighted it in and shot well, took it out spotlighting with Missed and my boys used it. Suddenly it went from dead rabbit to puffs of dust 2 feet from them in different dirrections.

The moron hadn't cleaned the barrel out and I had fire enough rounds to fill the rifling with hard packed grease turning the gun from a rifle to a smooth bore musket.

It then took hours and hours of scrubbing and spaying chemicals down the bore to dissolve it and get it out.

You don't need pillar bedding on a 22 but my CZ has a Yo Dave trigger and is glass bedded (Knead it bedded even!)

i have 2 452s a silhouette and a varmint. I used a brookes trigger kit which is the same as the yo dave. The silhouette needed tube and spring & the varmint just a spring change.

The stock on the silhouette I just made sure that I had no barrel touching and I put the varmint in a Boyds stock.

Not too fussie on ammo I shoot Auto match in both.

Barrel needs a good clean as both mine came with some wired grease in them.

I'm happy with both guns. You can get a lot of info on http://www.rimfirecentral.com on action screw tension and the like.

Disclaimer: Take the advice of the CZ owners here. I don't own a CZ.

I can't comment on the trigger as I know nothing about them.

For a 22LR, I would think bedding and pillars is excessive and would yield minimal results. Perhaps useful for a serious competition 22LR but not for necessary for most of us. Keep your money in your pocket until you get a feel for how the rifle is.

I wouldn't worry about running 200-300 rounds through it, that will happen quickly enough...probably the first trip out. Same for working the bolt, that will happen quickly enough.

Yes, try different brands and types of ammo. You'll be amazed at the differences between brands/types. Every rifle is different, but I've found SK Standard Plus and SK High Velocity to be the most accurate. Start with one brand and get that dialed in as best you can, then buy a box of each type you want to try at the range. Shoot groups with each ammo and you'll quickly figure out which shoots better....then you can buy that in bulk Don't forget to horde some cheaper ammo for plain old plinking (I don't plink with the good stuff 24c per shot).

On new rifles I have learnt one two things:

1. A thorough cleaning is mandatory for every rifle (new or used). You can't assume 'new' equates to 'spotless'. A thorough clean will quickly educate you about the condition/workings of your rifle.

2. Don't assume any rifle is setup because someone claims it is. Step One is critical to ensuring you start on the right foot. I wasted ammo trying to dial in a centrefire only to find the manufacturer hadn't tightened the scope rail down (and it was coming loose). Of course, had I done a THOROUGH clean in the first place this would have been caught (I was a newbie).

Clean your new rifle as best as you feel capable of (read the manual, search the web). That means you shouldn't overly disassemble it, just break it down to the major components, clean and lube.

Please use firearm specific cleaning products, don't get tempted to go all handyman on it with stuff from the shed or kitchen!

The barrel must be cleaned before you use it, but don't get sucked into the mysterious barrel annointing rituals competition blokes post on youtube. A simple $20 cleaning kit (properly used) is all you need to get started.

Chicken blood must be used to annoint the bore.

Out of interest, why didn't you go a 455?

Seriously, have you seen the crap people do to barrels before they even fit them to a receiver? Boiling water, encantations, magic potions, mystical rags, and sacred firing dances.

I reckon everyone has their superstitious belief ... mine is a thorough cleaning to get anything out, then swab and wet with Tetra Gun lubricant, let dry, patch out ... then shoot the shit out of it!

Couple of patches soaked in inox and a few lead projectiles should do the trick.

No intention on it ever being a swap barrel set up, the 452 is older more proven design, been going strong since it replaced the old BRNO model 2. I Know there are prob more similarities than differences but I'm a bit of a traditionalist, there must be a reason CZ kept making the 452 when it was supposed to be replaced by be 455 years ago! Why change for changes sake? My understanding is the change was to cheapen production and allow 1 action to chamber 17hmr 22lr arms 22 mag!
