Would running a .308 Norma Mag reamer up its clanger clean up the entire chamber, or better to cut 1" or so off the chamber and start again?

you would have to cut and then re cut the chamber, the winbag is a bit longer in the body and shorter in the neck.

That is what I had surmised, but never hurts to get another opinion.

You'll certainly need to shunt the barrel for a clean re-chamber.

The only 'classic' 30s are the Weatherby and H&H. The Win Bag is a damn fine cartridge, feed it 200gr AccuBonds and you could virtually hunt the World.

Maybe only by 100 fps, never known an animal that could tell the difference, .338 brass is easy to come by and the correct size, just one pass through a FLS die.

And mainly because like Torana's 20 odd years ago - every f#ckers got a Winbag and I like to be different sometimes.

They are basically the same cartridge.

If you're talking classic think about the 300 H&H Mag.

My money would be on the 8x68mm S cases necked down to a 30cal with a long neck. Apparently the 8x68mm RWS brass is excellent and by design the walls are quite thick to support the slightly rebated head. Wiki quotes some very high pressures (>72,000 psi) but doesn't comment how many reloads they achieve after that (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8%C3%9768mm_S)
