Any one have any tips on correcting a warped timber stock.

I'm trying Missed but it bloody hard to try and get a good picture

Mind you the more I'm looking at it and Ive been using a straight edge its starting to look like the action is crooked in the stock. looking at the bedding which I don't think is factory. its silver a looks alto like metal putty. there is more on one side that the other and the action seems to be pushed across s I drop it in

Could you re-bed it and sand down any area's that touch the barrel. Bit had to see in the pic but it looks like it still clears the barrel, just off centre?

Actually, looking again, it does look like it touches the stock.................... Andrew????

Personally I would try to re-bed it. But beware I have re-bedded a few rifles in my time and you really need to be careful that their is nothing left in there that could align it back to the bad way.
Bedding really isn't that hard but it is messy, a Dremel will fix a multitude of errors but it's far better not to have that gunk in the wrong place at all.
Steaming the timber will soften it but you will need to build a jig to hold it correctly whilst it dries, bloody hard one! Would be interested to see how you manage.

cheers gents. just getting home from work ive grabbed some better straight edges as last night it was starting to look as if its a poor bedding job and im now quite confident that the stock is quite straight. its rather hard to get good pictures and ghere is a good amunt of cast off at the other wnd that twnds to trick the eye. ill try to get some better pics up.


the barrel is definatly rubbing in the left hand side of the barell channel as it got a nice polished section on the barrwl and on the stock.

I can get the action to sit straight but once I tighten the action screws it gets pulled off centre.

Hi flip,
My take on that is that you probably need to re bed it.
I would look at getting rid of the previous bedding compound and start from scratch.
If your not confident in doing this then get someone who is to do it for you.
Just my opinion, but that's what I would do.

That's exactly what's happening. I just spent the last hour digging out hothead old bedding compound it was too soft to grind out. In places it was soft enough to peel with my finger nail.

Got just about all of it out but it extends down the bolt holes so looks like a pillar job as well.

I'm not sure if it was factory bedding gone soft of aftermarket work gone wrong.....the stuff is bright silver when cut.

I'm keen to have a go myself as the stock need some work any way .......... Need to find a couple bits of nice timber to plug up the holes in the stock. Ive pushed the ally tubes out.

I would say definitely not factory bedding.
Can you figure out the reason for the screws
in the for end? Similar to 3 piece for end on a high
grade Belgium Browning
