Went up to the mates farm yesterday to have a look around and test some new loads for the 7-08. 2208 and 130 MK went well with 39 g.
Then changed to my 168Mk, first shot open the bolt and no shell comes out. Insert cleaning rod and push.
SHIT Guess where the rest is.
any ideas on getting it out.

FMD. Anything amazingly different when that shit went off?

As for getting it out, I don't have the foggiest. I can't see it really being possible with the action and barrel still joined. Well, it's probably possible but I would think much easier if they weren't.

Wishing you goodluck getting it out, very crappy timing.

Daisy, get a stiff copper bore brush (7mm) jam it up through the neck of the case from breech end, then pull it back out.

Simple.

Mick

(Usual caveat - make sure rifle is unloaded etc etc etc. . . . )

That or an easyout :)

Thanks Mick,
I got it out easy with the brush trick. I think it was a new brush and worked a treat.

No worries with the gun being unloaded with that stuck in there.

There would be two chances of me sticking an easy out in a chamber of my rifle.

Stick a rod down the barrel and see if you can lift the neck enough to tap it out.

Its not that big a deal really Buffy, if you take a bit of care. Its how I removed a separated case from my 257rob imp when I had headspace issues. The easyout is only grabbing onto the inside of the brass in the body/neck junction. You don't have to have them in gorilla tight.

Another example was one of my mates who was using an old Mk10 Mauser 22-250 for roo shooting, he was pretty tight in the back pocket and when his brass got old he would use it till it fell apart, he had a T handle about 18 inches long made up, with a slide like a slide hammer, with an easyout welded to the end, it lived in his ute, he probably had one or two a night that separated. But that is just a case of him being a tight prick.

"if you take a bit of care"

That statement right there rules that option out for me.

Some where in my gear I have an expandable dummy round for the want of a better description that fits inside of the case I think it was designed for military 308 when I get home I will post a pic of it.
Mick will remember that method of yours should be good for all but the tightest case.
I don't think I would use the easy out method not even on one of your rifles Camel.
Last resort only.

Ol55,
Your thinking of the "Separated Case Remover" - yep originally designed for the Military in 7.62mm (ok ok .308), however Target Rifle shooters all over the world have one or two sitting around in the bottom of their range bag.
